Why didn’t I get the emergency Government alert on my phone?

MILLIONS of people across the UK received an emergency alert on their phone today. The alert was to warn people again the high risk of wildfires. however, some people didn’t receive the message, here’s why. The emergency alert hit millions of people’s phones at 7pm this evening The alarm has been used on five real occasions, and was first tested in 2023, to warn UK citizens about emergencies such as storms or flooding. The government issued the alert warning people “not to light anything that could spark a fire, including barbecues, campfires, and fireworks” with the country in the middle of another heatwave. The alert has gone through even if a phone is set to silent, with the sound and vibration lasting about 10 seconds. Accompanied by a siren sound, it warned that “even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire placing lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk”. The alert added: “Recipients will also be urged to report any fire immediately by calling 999.” Andy Burnham said that the alert was sent out after a request by fire and rescue services. The Labour PM said: “This evening, an Emergency Alert has been sent to people across England and Wales as the wildfire risk remains very high. Most read in The Sun “I was in Stourbridge today and saw first-hand the devastating impact these fires have had on people’s homes and lives. “Our priority now is to keep everyone safe and prevent more fires from starting. During this period of extreme heat, I’m asking everyone to take extra care.” Why didn’t I receive the UK emergency alert test on my phone? Every device connected to 4G and 5G networks across the UK would have received the emergency alert. This means older phones and any phone still connected to 2G or 3G networks did not receive the message. Phones on silent were still expected to sound the siren but mobiles that have been switched off or put on airplane mode will not have got the alert. The alarm system works by using phone masts to signal all mobiles within their range. This means anyone outside the country at 7pm also did not receive the emergency message. Comment now
