Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Tiguan, an all-electric version of its best-selling vehicle. The ID. Tiguan will go on sale in early 2027, replacing the ID.4 and ID.5 with up to 372 miles of range and plenty of other upgrades. Meet the ID.4’s replacement, the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan The ID.4 and ID.5 are on the way out as the new ID. Tiguan steps in. With over 950,000 models sold since they went on sale in 2021, the ID.4 and ID.5 have been at the core of Volkswagen’s EV lineup. Following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, the ID. Tiguan is the next to go on sale as a “True Volkswagen,” as the company calls it, bringing more than just a new name. The ID. Tiguan is an upgrade in nearly every aspect over its predecessors, with a new design, updated tech, and refined interior. Its “hallmark feature,” according to VW, is the completely redesigned exterior. Based on its new Pure Positive design language, the ID. Tiguan looks more like the gas-powered version with a traditional boxy SUV profile. Volkswagen ID. It also drops the flush door handles in favor of traditional pull-style handles. As a result, the new ID. Tiguan “looks like a vehicle from the premium segment,” Volkswagen claimed. Volkswagen ID. The overhauled interior includes its new infotainment system, including a 10″ Digital Cockpit and 15″ center display screens. Plus, there’s an optional 12″ passenger screen. One of the biggest changes inside is the return of physical buttons, which are now found below the center display and on the steering wheel. Volkswagen ID. Meanwhile, drivers can choose from six different classic VW models to display in a virtual “garage” on the infotainment screen: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, Tiguan I, Race Touareg, and Beetle. The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will be available with two battery packs and three performance levels: a rear-wheel-drive version with 140 kW (190 PS) and a 58 kWh battery a rear-wheel-drive version with 210 kW (286 PS) and a 77 kWh battery and a 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel-drive variant, also with a 77 kWh battery. Depending on the battery size and configuration, the ID. Tiguan offers a WLTP range of up to 372 miles (600 km), a “new benchmark” for Volkswagen’s electric SUVs in Europe. With up to 295 hp (299 PS), the ID. Tiguan can tow up to 4,400 lbs (2,000 kg) with the 77 kWh battery. With the 58 kWh battery, towing capacity is around 4,000 lbs (1,800 kg). Volkswagen ID. Tiguan in Germany and several other European markets on October 13, with prices starting at 42,695 euros ($47,800). It will be available in four trims: Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line. After it goes on sale in Europe through early 2027, Volkswagen said the ID. Tiguan will replace the ID.4 in North America. Prices and other details will be announced “in due course,” the company said. The current VW ID.4 uses an 82 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 291 miles in the RWD version. The AWD model offers around 263 miles. Given the European model features nearly 25 miles (40 km) more WLTP range than the outgoing ID.4, the ID. Tiguan will likely offer over 300 miles on the EPA scale. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. More.
