Nintendo Officially Addresses GTA 6 On Switch 2

Sign in to your ScreenRant account The possibility of Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2 has been a tantalizing one for fans, as a port would allow the massive sandbox adventure to be taken on the go. While it might not seem like a natural fit for the comparatively family-friendly brand, Nintendo is no longer particularly shy about featuring M-rated games on its consoles. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, a remaster of past hits, is available on the original Switch, and games ranging from DOOM to Cyberpunk 2077 have found a home on the family of systems. Porting Grand Theft Auto 6 to the original Switch might be an impossible technical hurdle, but the Switch 2's significant power boost could theoretically make it possible with reasonable compromises. Now, a key figure at Nintendo has weighed in on the matter. In an interview with Variety, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked about the possibility of Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to the platform. Pritchard chose not to answer the question head-on, calling the topic "a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar" (respectively, the parent company and developer behind the game) and saying she has "nothing to announce on [her] end at this time." It isn't much to go off of, but it's notably more optimistic than a total shutdown would be. Clearly, Pritchard would be open to the idea of Grand Theft Auto 6 on the system, tossing the ball into Take-Two and Rockstar's court. While we're unlikely to get an answer on that side of the equation any time soon, it's certainly possible that the topic could be revisited further down the line. For the time being, Rockstar's focus is clearly on delivering the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Despite the PC audience representing a bigger market than ever, Grand Theft Auto 5 won't even be coming to PC until further down the line, so it's not hard to see why optimizing the game for the Switch 2 wouldn't be an immediate priority. Optimizing the game for its primary systems, however, could still help to build a basis for a future Switch 2 port. The Xbox Series S has significantly weaker hardware than the Series X and the PS5, so getting it in good shape on that platform might bring it within striking distance of a functional Switch 2 port. Of course, Rockstar hasn't even brought Grand Theft Auto 5 to the platform, leaving the depth of the company's overall interest in the platform unclear. Those excited to play Grand Theft Auto 6 probably shouldn't wait around for the possibility of a Switch 2 port, but it would be a nice surprise if it ever does happen.
