The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Credits Scene Teases… Something

3 min readThe following story contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. THERE’S QUITE A lot of movie in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is all about work-life balance, following the web-slinger in a post-No Way Home New York City where he’s doing as much hero work as he can fit into his days. It’s a major, busy time for Spider-Man, but not so much for Peter Parker, whose identity was erased from everyone’s mind after Doctor Strange cast a spell doing so at the end of the previous movie.That’s just part of things, though, as Brand New Day also brings in fan-favorite characters like The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and expands on the sinister nature of the Department of Damage Control (DODC), headed up by an untrustworthy dude named Bill Metzger (an excellent Tramell Tillman, in a slight twist on his Emmy-winning Severance role).Our main conflict comes in the form of a mysterious telepathic antagonist who keeps trying to breach the DODC walls. This antagonist turns out to be, drum roll please, none other than Jean Grey, played in a wonderful turn by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink.If you don’t recognize that name, it probably means you’re not much of a Marvel fan; Jean Grey is one of the most famous members of the X-Men. Not only has the character been a staple in the comics since her debut in 1963’s The X-Men #1, but she’s prominently featured in multiple film adaptations as well, previously played by both Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. (Legendary comics writer Chris Claremont even wrote about Jean for Men’s Health back in 2024!) By the end of Brand New Day, we’ve been through a lot. And everyone knows that Marvel likes to let out a little bit of fishing line and bait in order to get us on the hook for something that’s coming in the future. With threads to Hulk, Punisher, and the X-Men out there, what could Marvel possibly toss us by way of a credits scene?Buy Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tickets HereDoes Spider-Man: Brand New Day have a credits scene?It does! But only one, at the very end of the credits, and it’s very brief. In fact, it’s not even in live-action—it’s an animation.Credits Scene: Spidey-Tracker… Off-World!Sony PicturesThere’s only one credits scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it doesn’t deal with Jean Grey, any of the X-Men, The Punisher, or Hulk. In fact, it’s not even in live-action—it’s a short animation of the screen depicting the app Spidey Tracker, which Ned (Jacob Batalon) created and features prominently in the film. (It’s also a real app that you can use right now!)The post-credits moment is short and clear: The app shows a new Spidey sighting, drifting its focus off of New York City, and, off of Earth altogether, spotting Spidey in outer space. The screen then cuts to black, and that all-too-familiar Marvel text appears: “Spider-Man Will Return.”The insinuation here, of course, is that we’ll next see Spider-Man in outer space. Or perhaps in another dimension? The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters on December 18. Tom Holland has not been announced as part of that film’s cast… but it’s easy to imagine him there, somehow making his way to outer space, or perhaps, to another dimension or planet where Dr. Doom is wreaking havoc.The idea of an Off-World Spidey being spotted could also mean we see more from Andrew Garfield and/or Tobey Maguire, who notably appeared as their old characters from past franchises in No Way Home.
