About two years into a rebrand, the popular role-playing game is still finding ways to keep players engaged while adding in new classes, species, and campaign settings. On top of announcing some surprises for 2026, Dungeons & Dragons has officially unveiled its D&D 2027 Roadmap. Fresh off Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, D&D is gearing up for an exciting 2026 that sees an official book with World of Warcraft among its releases. This year's GenCon will see a major presence for Dungeons & Dragons, and during a press briefing, ScreenRant was able to get an earlier glimpse at the 2027 roadmap for D&D. For fans of some of D&D's most iconic (but often overlooked) older settings, you're in for a bit of a treat. First up is the return of Dark Sun in early 2027. This will span multiple books, and over 500 pages total, so it's bringing back Dark Sun in a major way. This isn't a simple revisit like we saw with Sigil in Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse, but a pretty expansive reboot of the post-apocalyptic world of Athas. Dark Sun is well-known as a brutal campaign setting, but the 2027 version may be the most violent to date. This is billed as D&D's first-ever M-rated books, which come with a content warning for violence, nudity, and sexuality. If dark and brutal RPGs aren't your thing, then no worries, because D&D also shared another classic setting comes back next year. Greyhawk returns in the latter portion of 2027 as part of the Season of Sword & Sorcery. As anyone who's grabbed the latest 5.5 rulebooks know, the Greyhawk setting has been sneaking back slowly but steadily into D&D the last couple of years, so it's exciting to see the setting getting even more love soon. As part of D&D's new seasonal line-up, three seasons were also announced for the tabletop RPG franchise: Season of Survival - Early 2027 (Dark Sun) Season of Sword & Sorcery - Late 2027 (Greyhawk) Season Of Rebellion - Late 2027-2028 (more to come) More details have been promised during D&D's keynote at GenCon this year, with the full event running from July 30 until August 2.
