There is little she loves more than discussing her favorite TV shows with fellow fans. One day, she hopes to publish an original fantasy novel. Netflix's darker version of Gilmore Girls is so compelling and popular that it was renewed for two seasons at once. Nearly two decades after its original finale, Gilmore Girls is still one of the most celebrated small-town dramas in TV history. This is largely because of the deep relationship between Lauren Graham's Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel). Despite being mother and daughter, they were best friends, too; their relatively close ages — Lorelai had Rory when she was just 16 years old — changed their dynamic and how they interacted. Combined with Stars Hollow's iconic small-town shenanigans, Lorelai and Rory's respective will-they-won't-they love lives, and Lorelai's complicated relationship with her parents, Gilmore Girls never had a dull, drama-free moment. The same is certainly true of Netflix's Ginny & Georgia, which follows fellow teen mom Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her two kids, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Austin (Diesel La Torraca), as they try to find peace in small-town Massachusetts, only to be subjected to ridicule and derision — Ginny even experiences racial profiling — when they initially arrive. Ginny & Georgia's storytelling is definitely more life-or-death than Gilmore Girls', testing Georgia's relationship with her kids and the town she's chosen to live in. While Lorelai had manipulative, controlling parents, Georgia had a much rougher childhood, learning to survive and fight back against those who would harm her from an early age, all without the help of a small-town innkeeper to keep her and her kids safe. Still, the show features plenty of fun friendships, sexy romances, and frenemy relationships to keep audiences entertained. Ginny & Georgia's Relationship Is Just As Important As Lorelai & Rory's In Gilmore Girls Though Georgia has two kids (from two different fathers), her relationship with Ginny is the show's anchor point. Every decision Georgia makes stems from her desire to keep Ginny, and by extension, Austin, safe. Every lie, every manipulation, every violent altercation is to build a life for her children better than the one she experienced. Unfortunately, like Lorelai and Rory in Gilmore Girls, Georgia and Ginny grow so close that they start to resemble each other. For teenage Rory, this meant getting swept up with boys and occasionally neglecting her responsibilities; for Ginny, it means becoming a master deceiver, even involving Austin in one of her schemes to save her mother. She's slowly turning into a younger version of Georgia. This understandably scares Georgia, so much so that, in the next season, she'll willingly attend therapy to try to understand how to help her children. Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry share the same undeniable familial chemistry in Ginny & Georgia as Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel in Gilmore Girls. An undercurrent of tension always exists between them, as Ginny fights back against her mother's maternal instincts, while Georgia tries to hide the truth from Ginny, eventually pushing her away. While their disagreements are electric, what really makes the show work is that it's always clear these two love each other, to the point where it almost becomes destructive for both of them. Netflix's Ginny & Georgia Returns For Season 4 In 2027 Credit: Netflix via MovieStillsDB Ginny and Georgia's relationship, the show's darker drama, and its compelling romances have made Ginny & Georgia one of Netflix's most surprisingly successful series. The show held a spot in Nielsen's official Top 10 streaming charts for eight weeks after season 2's debut, earning the show a dual renewal for seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 premiered in June 2025, and Ginny & Georgia season 4 is in the works, officially slated to arrive on Netflix in 2027 after finishing production in March this year. Though an exact release date is unknown, now's the perfect time to start watching this small-town drama. Each season has 10 episodes that are roughly an hour long, and more excitement is expected in the new season, as the family grows, old foes return, and Austin and Ginny try to make sense of their new dynamic with their mother after the somewhat traumatic events of Ginny & Georgia season 3. Howey, Gentry, and La Torraca are set to return, alongside Scott Porter as Paul, Raymond Ablack as Joe, Felix Mallard as Marcus, and Nathan Mitchell as Zion, among others. At this point, anything could happen in Ginny & Georgia. Ginny & Georgia season 4 premieres on Netflix in 2027. Seasons 1–3 are streaming now.
