Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur facility becomes Suzuki's first 10 lakh-unit global plant

Maruti Suzuki has begun production at the fourth plant of its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, making it Suzuki's first global manufacturing site with an annual capacity of 10 lakh vehicles.Maruti Suzuki e Vitara at the Hansalpur plant.Maruti Suzuki India has commenced commercial production at the fourth manufacturing plant at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, taking the site's annual production capacity to 10 lakh (1 million) vehicles. The milestone makes Hansalpur the first Suzuki manufacturing facility anywhere in the world to achieve an annual production capacity of one million units, while also becoming India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at a single location.The newly operational Plant D has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, increasing the Hansalpur facility's total capacity from 7.5 lakh units to 10 lakh units per year. With this expansion, Maruti Suzuki's overall manufacturing capacity across India has risen to 29 lakh units annually.Maruti Suzuki has invested a cumulative Rs 25,288.7 crore in the Hansalpur facility, including an estimated Rs 3,900 crore for the fourth plant. The new production line will initially manufacture the company's flagship electric SUV, the e Vitara.The Hansalpur manufacturing complex currently produces the Fronx, Baleno, Swift and e Vitara. It has also emerged as a key export hub for the automaker, accounting for nearly 47 per cent of Maruti Suzuki's total exports during FY2025-26. Commenting on the expansion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said Gujarat has become a major manufacturing and export base for the company, supported by strong infrastructure and a favourable industrial ecosystem.He added that the commissioning of the fourth plant would help the company meet rising domestic and international demand while strengthening its "Make in India, Make for the World" strategy. Takeuchi also said the Hansalpur facility, along with the upcoming Sanand manufacturing plant in Gujarat, will play a crucial role in Maruti Suzuki's long-term goal of producing 40 lakh vehicles annually in India.
