I transformed my dull semi-detached home into UK’s most colourful house with giant nature mural

A MAN has transformed his once dull semi-detached home into the UK’s most colourful property thanks to a giant wildlife mural. Wyndham Stokes, 59, revamped his house in Treharris, Wales, with the help of local mural artist Matt Dey, who has previously transformed the likes of Formula 1 cars and animals with his designs. Welshman Wyndham, who was born in the property and has lived there ever since, admitted he was inspired to transform his home after wanting “something a little different”. I sit in the garden, look at it and think what more can I wish for? “It’s very pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to look at. “It’s the little things that bring joy. “Everyone was coming up to watch Matt whilst he was painting! Now I get cars coming up just to come see it for themselves. He is very talented.” The father-of-one commissioned artist Matt, 51, to transform his home after seeing his designs online, and proposed a loose idea to follow a “nature theme” with the huge mural. Most read in Money Matt revealed: “He gave me complete freedom and the only brief was that he wanted a nature scene – other than that he was open to whatever I wanted to do!” Wyndham doesn’t plan to stop with the exterior of his home and has already asked the muralist to return to paint the entire house, which will be finished by the end of the summer. He said: “It is even going to have a pine marten on it! How exciting.” Matt, who began designing murals following the Covid-19 pandemic, painted the mural onto the house’s exterior using spray cans filled with acrylic paint. The artist, who recently appeared at Europe’s largest street art festival, Upfest, in Britsol, concluded of painting the property: “I am terrified of heights, so that was something I had to try and get over pretty quickly. “It was like painting in a goldfish bowl, there was no room for error as everyone can see you. “The whole village was looking, it had to be spot on!” Comment now
