Blik360 - Year in review

Blik360 - Year in review

Almost exactly one year ago I built the first version of Blik, because we were in need of employee performance reviews. A quick recap on why I built it: I had specific things in mind for this 360. I wanted to rate the entire team on the Dreyfus model. Ever since I got introduced to the Dreyfus model by an awesome guy, let's call him Mike - ex USAF turned tech manager, on how to rate people with different skill sets. It both scared me as well is intrigued me. As my search for (Dreyfus) cheap 360 performance review software turned nowhere, I took it upon my family to spend a few nights vibecoding this prototype. Next to the Dreyfus model, one more requirement was that anonimity should be one of, if not the most, important pillars of the product. Not even an application admin/maintainer should be able to (easily) tie reviewer answers to a person. So, those few nights took a few more nights, and here we are today. A year later, Blik360 has paying customers! It kind of surprised me, because I open sourced the app and expected most people to just use the open source version if they pleased. I mean, I just offer hosted Blik as paid service. Which, recently, also kind of blew up. In a short amount of time I got 2 different contributors/PRs to offer Blik in different languages. One of these contributions came from a very large wiki organization. That was a moment of pure awe and shock: Holy shit, they would like to use Blik?! That's awesome! Not long after that, I received a few more interested companies doing trials, and gathered more feedback. That led me to a commit/vibe-spree to enhance and modernize the user interface, as well as add more usability updates. Things like Questionnaire drag&drop ordering/arranging Filters and selectors on the cycle and reviewee pages Reworking the menu bar And of course the translations! For some reason I believe that there may be a future for the tool beyond what and where it is today. And for this reason I'm writing this post. To push myself to keep going and to hopefully learn from others what you'd be looking for in a performance review tool. I know there are lots of things I still want: PDF version of the report MCP/LocalAI integration so that you can ask / get more details on your report as reviewee More built-in questionnaires (potentially mapping different systems like DISC if I can find the right graphics to go along with it - it's been the most requested/discussed questionnaire) Just to name a few. What I'm super proud of overall is just the system's simplicity while keeping that anonymity factor high, it adds a layer of complexity to the system we shouldn't bother the user with, but keeps us techies from freaking out about who's going to be able to trace my answer back to me. Dang! Ah. yeah almost forgot. I am also super proud of the fact that Blik has most of it's functionality available through API. That makes the system super pluggable and allows me to build intergrations into platforms such as Microsoft Teams. Speaking of wishlist/things I want for Blik.... There is much to do still. :) Now: What, in your opinion, makes a 360 review worth pursuing in the first place?
