Ather rolls out Pothole+ Alerts for 450 Apex, 450X and Rizta Z scooters

Ather Energy has introduced Pothole+ Alerts for its Gen 2 and newer electric scooters, using connected fleet intelligence to warn riders of road hazards and recommend smoother routes before every journey.Ather Energy has started rolling out a new connected feature called Pothole+ Alerts for its Gen 2 and newer electric scooters, including the Ather 450 Apex, 450X and Rizta Z. The feature uses intelligence gathered from Ather's connected scooter fleet to warn riders about potholes, damaged road sections, uneven surfaces and speed breakers while navigating.Beyond issuing alerts during a ride, the new system can also recommend the smoothest route before the journey begins, allowing riders to choose comfort over the quickest route where applicable.The announcement was made by Ather Energy co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta on social media platform X, where he said the feature had been nearly nine years in development. According to Mehta, the biggest challenge was not conceptualising the feature but collecting enough real-world riding data to make it reliable."The challenge was never the idea. It was the data," Mehta said, adding that the feature required a large connected fleet travelling the same roads repeatedly over several years to accurately identify road conditions. Every Ather scooter is equipped with onboard computing hardware and connectivity, enabling the company to collect anonymised ride data and introduce new features through over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The company says Pothole+ Alerts is among the first large-scale applications of this connected ecosystem, converting millions of kilometres of ride data into actionable road intelligence for riders.Integrated into the scooter's navigation interface, the feature displays advance warnings for potholes, broken road sections, uneven surfaces and speed breakers on the dashboard. Riders can also receive audio alerts through the scooter's speakers, the Ather Halo smart helmet or any compatible Bluetooth headset. Ather says the rollout marks another step in expanding the capabilities of its connected platform.
