Your older Pixel phone may finally be getting Quick Share AirDrop support

On the Pixel front, that’s included phones from the Pixel 8a on up, but earlier today we learned of a possible expansion to the Pixel Tablet. We’re now also getting reports of Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 users seeing notifications of this new support. Devices that won’t play nicely together suck. Sometimes incompatibility is the design goal, trying to lock you into one ecosystem or another. Other times it’s a glitch, or even just developer callousness. But however it starts, we’re always glad to see it come to an end. Android and iOS devices have been inching closer towards peaceful co-existence with the arrival of cross AirDrop/Quick Share support, and now it looks like a long-overdue expansion is taking place.Earlier today we shared with you the first report we’ve seen of the old Pixel Tablet adding AirDrop support, and now we’re already finding similar accounts from owners of Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 handsets.Here, users @megumario on Telegram and @Cookieofautumn1 on X share the notifications they’re just now spotting on their Pixel handsets. This may be a phased rollout, so it’s possible you may not get this on your own device straight away, but be on the lookout.It’s worth noting that while multiple users have seen these messages, at least some claim that it’s still not working for them, suggesting the notification may have been premature. Perhaps it’s also tied to specific software updates, which aren’t necessarily all arriving at the same time.We’ve reached out to Google in an effort to get the full picture on this apparent expansion, including precisely which Pixel devices should be expecting to get this support.
