Following a prior teaser that was the better part of a year ago, Microsoft has finally acknowledged its work on a Google TV app for Xbox Game Pass on TCL TVs, but it’s still “months” out from the sound of it. TCL first announced that an Xbox Game Pass app would be coming to its TVs – the Google TV models, specifically – back at CES 2026. That was in January. Microsoft never acknowledged the announcement publicly, and it’s been months since we’ve gotten any updates. Today, Microsoft has officially confirmed that it will release an Xbox Game Pass app on TCL TVs, marking the first time the cloud gaming service will officially be available on Google TV. Microsoft’s announcement never formally acknowledges Google TV by name, hinting that this is probably exclusive to TCL TVs, rather than being available for the broader platform. TCL is the biggest Google TV partner and, while it also produces Roku and Fire TV units, it primarily uses Google TV and had previously teased the Xbox app directly around its new Google TV flagship. But the Xbox Game Pass app for TCL’s Google TV sets is apparently still “months” away, despite the nine-month gap we’ve already gone through since the collaboration was first announced. Microsoft says: Today, we’re sharing a new partnership with TCL that will bring the XBOX app to select TCL Smart TVs in the coming months… …With the XBOX app on supported TCL Smart TVs, players will be able to access XBOX Cloud Gaming through their Game Pass subscription to stream supported games directly from their TV. For eligible XBOX Game Pass subscribers, that means access to an instant library of games spanning blockbuster releases, beloved franchises, and indie favorites through their cloud playtime. This comes just a day after Microsoft announced major changes to its cloud gaming setup on Xbox Game Pass. Players will now have a limited number of hours per month, topping out at 15 hours, before they need to pay more.
