World Of Warcraft: Forever Official Marketing Takes Shots At Pirate Software Published Oct 31, 2026, 8:52 AM EDT George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. A new promotional video highlighting World of Warcraft: Forever’s Booty Bay takes a potshot at Pirate Software’s infamous raid incident from 2025. Although it’s fair to say that Pirate Software is mostly known for his loud opposition to the Stop Killing Games movement and the ensuing backlash that followed, he’s also quite the figure in World of Warcraft. Like with the SKG situation, though, it’s not exactly for positive reasons, as he’s become both a meme and a martyr. The drama stems from Pirate Software’s involvement in a Dire Maul raid with OnlyFangs back in 2025, where the streamer, playing as a mage, abandoned his group and caused the death of two members. After much arguing and criticism, it eventually led to Pirate Software being kicked from the group, something that now even Blizzard is making fun of. Pirate Software’s 2025 Raid Controversy Referenced In WoW: Forever Trailer “The Type That Goes Soft And Abandons You” As pointed out by Twitter user NyceGamingYT, IGN recently uploaded a new trailer for World of Warcraft: Forever, which features Bill Bailey as a narrator highlighting some of the game’s iconic locations. The latest episode of the series features a look at Booty Bay, with Bailey noting that it’s where you’ll find “goblins, gankers, and pirates”. Bailey goes on to note that, when he says pirates, he means the swashbuckling kind and not “the type that goes soft and abandons you to be mauled when the situation gets dire”. This is, of course, a very unsubtle reference to Pirate Software and the Dire Maul raid controversy, which many said was just him being a coward and saving his own skin. There’s also a cheeky Jet2 reference at the end, but that’s not quite as noteworthy. Funny, though. As of the time of writing, Pirate Software, also known as Thor, hasn’t replied to Blizzard’s dig, even though pretty much every World of Warcraft player has spotted the reference and said how great it is. While it has been quite some time since the incident occurred, I can’t imagine he’ll take it too well considering how much damage it ended up doing.
