Buick was found guilty of ‘careless riding’ by Windsor stewards following his runner-up finish on the John & Thady Gosden-trained 5-2 chance Sunshine Star on Monday evening. William Buick, third from the left in the dark red cap, cut up Rossa Ryan, in the lighter red cap, forcing his mount to clip heels and stumble badly Buick was found guilty of careless riding by stewards and hit with an eight-day ban Credit: PA Buick was deemed to have angled his mount left-handed when insufficiently clear of Ryan on Crystal Pier. The pair clashed with about a furlong to go. Ryan was forced to ease his mount down after clipping heels and stumbling. Sunshine Star plugged on well to finish second but the Class 4 fillies’ handicap was won by Oisin Murphy on Andrew Balding’s 9-1 Dream Camp. The official stewards’ report read: “An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately one furlong out involving SUNSHINE STAR, placed second, ridden by William Buick and CRYSTAL PIER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Rossa Ryan. “Saffie Osborne, the rider of MYTHICAL BIRD (IRE), placed third, was also interviewed but found to be not involved. “Buick was suspended for eight days for careless riding as he angled his mount left-handed to continue his run when insufficiently clear of CRYSTAL PIER (IRE), causing Ryan to clip heels and stumble badly.” Buick’s ban will kick in from August 3 and run until August 10. Most read in Horse Racing Fortunately for him that means he will be free to ride at next week’s Glorious Goodwood, where he is set for key rides on the likes of Trawlerman and Opera Ballo. The news will still come as a blow to Buick, who has been in red-hot form lately. He has been operating at a blistering 39 per cent strike rate and one of his biggest successes came on the now-retired Rebel’s Romance. Buick will replace Osborne on the Owen Burrows-trained Touleen in Saturday’s Group 3 Valiant Stakes at Ascot.
