Aaron Rodgers reunites with family after years-long estrangement, shares photos

Aaron Rodgers appears to have taken a major step toward repairing one of the most publicized family rifts in sports. According to his Instagram, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback recently reunited with much of his immediate family after years of estrangement. Rodgers shared photos from the gathering on social media Monday, showing him spending time with his parents and one of his brothers, Luke. The reunion comes after years of public discussion surrounding Rodgers’ relationship with his family, which became widely known nearly a decade ago. While one notable family member was absent from the photos, the images still marked a significant development for the four-time NFL MVP. Rodgers posted a series of photos to Instagram featuring himself alongside his mother Darla, his father Ed and brother Luke: “Another bonding week #fam,” Rodgers wrote in the caption. According to TMZ Sports, Rodgers’ younger brother, Jordan Rodgers, did not appear in any of the photos. It’s unclear whether the two have repaired their relationship or where things currently stand between them, but it’s worth noting that Jordan is working SEC Media Days in Tampa this week. Moreover, the Rodgers family dynamic first became public in 2016, when Jordan Rodgers appeared on The Bachelorette and discussed the family’s strained relationship with Aaron. Years later, Rodgers addressed the situation himself during Netflix’s Aaron Rodgers: Enigma documentary. Rodgers explained that he grew up in what he described as a strict religious household before gradually distancing himself from those beliefs during high school: “I grew up in a very white, dogmatic church and that just didn’t really serve me,” Rodgers said in the documentary. He added that his family viewed life in very rigid terms, saying it was “their way or the highway” before he “slowly uncoupled from that.” Earlier this year, Rodgers also discussed the family situation during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. He acknowledged that family members had publicly criticized him over the years but said he largely chose not to respond before eventually deciding “enough is enough.” Now, the latest social media post suggests at least part of the family has come back together. The off-field development comes as Rodgers prepares for what he has already announced will be the final season of his NFL career. Earlier this offseason, Rodgers confirmed the 2026 campaign with the Steelers will be his last: “This is it,” Rodgers said when asked if this would be his final NFL season. Rodgers returned to Pittsburgh after initially believing his time with the organization had ended following former head coach Mike Tomlin’s departure. The hiring of Mike McCarthy however, changed his outlook and ultimately brought him back for one more season. The future Hall of Fame quarterback is coming off a successful 2025 campaign in which he led the Steelers to an AFC North title while throwing for 3,322 yards and 24 touchdowns. Across 21 NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Steelers, Rodgers has thrown for 66,274 yards and 527 touchdowns while earning four NFL MVP awards, 10 Pro Bowl selections and leading Green Bay to a Super Bowl victory. Now, as Rodgers prepares for one final season on the field, it appears there has also been meaningful progress in his personal life away from football.
