Widow's Bay season 2 is not coming soon. Apple TV's slate of TV shows in 2026 has been packed with exciting new releases and the return of hit series with new seasons. Among the series that made their debut on the streaming service in 2026 is Widow's Bay, which mixes elements of horror and comedy to become a uniquely exciting show. That led to Widow's Bay not only proving itself a streaming hit for Apple TV, but also winning it big at the Emmys. The horror comedy series left the ceremony with six Emmys, and an update on its future has been provided. Speaking with The Direct, Matthew Rhys confirmed that Widow's Bay season 2 is expected to be released on Apple TV in 2028. According to Rhys, the Apple TV hit series will only start shooting its new episodes at the end of April 2027, which would make it impossible for Widow's Bay season 2 to be out before the year ends. The actor, who gives life to mayor Tom Loftis in the hit series, also commented on how the writers have only recently gotten back together to work on the next season, so even they are unlikely to know what happens. Check out the full quote below: "Ah, sadly, it'll be... it'll be 2028, because we don't start shooting 'til April of next year. So, the writers have only just gone back into the room. I don't think they know what happens yet, which must be terrifying. But yeah, we've been told we start shooting at the end of April [2027], so they better get a move on." Rhys' comments make sense based on how Widow's Bay season 1 played out. The Apple TV horror comedy series started filming its first season in May 2025. However, the show would only debut on the streaming service almost exactly a year later, with the first two episodes of Widow's Bay season 1 being released at the same time on Apple TV on April 29, 2026. As such, if the series keeps to the production start of April 2027, as per Rhys, then Widow's Bay season 2 might only arrive on Apple TV by April or May 2028. Higheror Lower? Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score. Elsewhere in the interview, the actor commented on how streaming has met a problem related to the long gap between seasons of most TV shows these days. According to Rhys, while he understands the money involved and how streamers want to wait to see how a new show performs before committing to a second season, that creates the unfortunate problem of always having a very long wait between seasons. Back in September, ScreenRant's Liam Crowley talked to Widow's Bay star Kate O'Flynn at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she claimed that season 2 might start filming in March. Per Rhys' comments, that timeline has been updated. As such, if anything, Widow's Bay season 2 is more likely to take longer to arrive on Apple TV based on the current projections than sooner. Season 1 of the horror comedy series made the show a global streaming hit and a universally beloved new 2026 series, drawing praise from critics and viewers alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, Widow's Bay season 1 holds a sky-high 98% critics' score based on 109 reviews and an equally outstanding 92% audience score. That suggests that even though the wait might be long, many will be there when Widow's Bay season 2 finally comes to Apple TV.
