Tenaya Stanford, 20, said she was driving with her child on I-65 on Preston Highway in Louisville when a white Kentucky man beat her with a belt-like objectThe interaction lasted a little over two minutes and caused bystanders to honk their horns and record with their phones, although no one intervened.Tenaya detailed the violent attack where the motorist tried to repeatedly slam her foot on the car door as he yanked her over again. In an emotional account, she said she did not tailgate the motorcycle; she wept to the officers as she said, ‘He kept spitting on my car.’‘My baby is right here, I’m not about to put my baby in danger,’ said Tenaya. The graphic video provoked outrage amongst black American communities, highlighting the long-standing racial tensions in the South. The backlash from the viral videos caused Louisville’s police chief Paul Humphrey to redirect the public outcry.Humphrey said in a press conference that the video has 'several versions' that aren't being shown, leading to 'a lot of misinformation' being spread.Additional surveillance footage captured from ‘across the street’ shows a continuation of the initial altercation between the man and Tenaya. The man is seen on camera getting out of his vehicle, which prompted Tenaya to stop her car as she pulled up next to him.She had the option to drive to safety from the enraged man.‘Both parties chose to leave their vehicles and have this physical interaction,’ Humphrey claims. The interaction between the two, seemingly from the additional footage, began when Tenaya swerved her car.The man then drove closer to her to make contact with her vehicle. He then walked away, and Tenaya opened her car door. The man turned back to her, and Tenaya closed her car door.Tenaya then repeatedly left the car again, which prompted the man to allegedly attack her.He then shoved Tenaya inside her car, all according to Chief Officer Humphrey. The man then walked away to his bike; in revenge, Tenaya attempted to taser the man and failed because it was broken. The man then pulled up to the front of the intersection and stopped at the red light to make a left turn.’She then pulled up to his lane and bumped the back of his wheel. Tenaya then turned right, leaving southbound on Preston Highway, officially ending the interaction. The chief described the incident as ‘adults making bad decisions.’The Louisville metro police department is ‘actively investigating this incident,’ according to WDRB.The Jefferson County Attorney's Office claimed they will ‘review and either file criminal charges or not based on the totality of the evidence,’ in a statement they made to the public.
