Before you start building your dream community, you’ll need to figure out where you fit in the grand society saga. Are you ready to make friends and become the neighborhood hero, or are you just here to forget where you planted everything? Societies are a huge part of your journey, shaping how you grow and unlock new possibilities. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about societies so you can find your perfect place to call home. Societies, Explained When you begin Seed, you'll choose between creating a new society or joining an existing one. For most new players, joining an established society is the better option. Existing societies already have resources and experienced members, which makes it easier to learn the game and keep your Seedling alive while you're offline. If you want to create your own society, you'll need at least three players. You can invite friends, use the in-game lobby by selecting Start a New Society followed by Match Me Into a Lobby, or recruit players through the Seed Discord. To create a society, select Create a New Lobby and choose an available island from the world map. After selecting an island, you'll choose your starting location. Before deploying, review the available resources at your chosen location. Every resource becomes important later, but your starting area should always include Water, Food, Lumber, and Stone. Missing any of these will make early progression much more difficult. Once you've chosen a location, click Deploy to continue to Seedling Creation. You can also enable Set as Private Society here to password-protect your society. This setting cannot be changed until you reach a later government tier. If you're playing solo or learning the game, joining a fairly large, established society is the easiest way to get started. Larger groups already have ongoing projects, shared resources, and experienced players who can help you progress. Starting your own society is best for organized groups that want complete control over their settlement. Just be prepared to build your infrastructure and secure essential resources from the beginning. Societies advance through six tiers: Expedition, Camp, Settlement, Town, City, and Metropolis. Completing every goal in the current tier automatically unlocks the next, which increases your population limit while adding new governance systems, permissions, roles, and voting features. For beginners, Settlement is generally the best tier to join. It offers enough stability to learn the game while still giving you meaningful ways to contribute and help shape the society's future.
