Baywatch, of course, started as an American drama series, running for 11 seasons from 1989 to 1999. It propelled David Hasselhoff to heartthrob status thanks to his portrayal of Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon, while a red swimsuit-clad Pamela Anderson became everyone’s celebrity crush as C.J. Parker. Over the years, there’s been fresh life breathed into the 90s show on several occasions, firstly with a cast overhaul for Baywatch: Hawaii from 1999 to 2001 and most recently with 2017’s feature film, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. And now, the lifeguards are back for another modernised retelling, which is already dividing opinion. Production on the reboot began in early 2026, eight years after rumours began swirling, and the series will surf onto screens next year, commanded by an ensemble cast of familiar faces in the famed beach attire. It will run for 12 episodes, also airing on Sky and NOW in the UK the same month; an exact date has not yet been confirmed. What’s the story? Baywatch 2027 centres around a grown-up Hobie Buchannon, the son of Mitch, following in his father’s footsteps. Played by Stephen Amell, the former wild child is now the Baywatch Captain, in charge of the other lifeguards. However, his life is flipped upside down when his long-lost daughter arrives and demands a spot on the tower. The stylish reboot will land next year (Picture: Fox) ‘I’m Charlie. From Texas. Biological daughter. Any of that ring a bell?’, Charlie (Jessica Belkin) says in the trailer. ‘Don’t worry, I’m not looking for money. Or a father. Just need a job.’ ‘Are you a lifeguard?’, Hobie asks, clearly in awe. The Captain must then wrestle with his years-long desire to finally have a relationship with his daughter and his fears of putting her in danger out at sea. ‘I have been dreaming of having a relationship with my daughter, but I’m worried about her out there,’ he admits. ‘It’s too dangerous.’ Similar to the original format, the series will see the young lifeguards face high-stakes rescues and emergencies, beginning with a plane crash, while simultaneously navigating messy romances, rivalries, and personal dramas. Who’s in the cast? The ensemble cast will, once again, save lives while getting tangled up in their own (Picture: Fox) Amell helms the cast as nepo-baby lifeguard Hobie, leading the slow-motion charge across the sand, just like his father taught him. Canadian-American actor Amell, 45, rose to fame on the CW superhero series Arrow and across its subsequent Arrowverse franchise, reprising his role as Oliver Queen in video games. And with several appearances in the professional wrestling circuit also under his belt, it’s not hard to see how he ended up in Baywatch. Playing his daughter, 24-year-old Belkin is best known for Last Straw (2024), Singing in My Sleep (2025), Bad Day (2026), and Hunt Club (2022), among others. She also recently appeared in The Hunting Wives and stars in upcoming Legally Blonde prequel Elle. Hobie’s daughter wants to follow in his footsteps (Picture: Fox) The rest of the cast includes: Hassie Harrison as Nat, Hobie’s closest friend and right-hand woman Noah Beck as Luke, a rookie lifeguard who looks up to Hobie as a mentor Shay Mitchell as Trina, a former lawyer who left a top firm to pursue lifeguarding Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, a former Marine who returned to Venice Beach to care for his father Olivia ‘Livvy’ Dunne as Grace, a keen junior lifeguard Brooks Nader as Selene, a ‘sharp-tongued’ Zuma Beach lifeguard with a deep rivalry with Hobie Luke Eisner as Koya, a rookie lifeguard who is best friends with Luke Nadia Gray as Lisa, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and partner to the lifeguard team Charlie McElveen as Ethan, a former colleague of Trina’s and successful lawyer Ashley Moore as Jasmine, a rookie lifeguard with the ‘mean girl’ reputation Kylar Miranda as Diego, an experienced lifeguard and the team’s handyman Mary McDonnell as Gayle, Hobie’s mother and Charlie’s grandmother John Beckwith as Julian, a PhD student on an ocean research team who grows close to Charlie after being rescued by her Blair Redford as Hunter, a cameraman who is persuaded to stay in town after sparks fly with a lifeguard Are any original stars returning? Understandably, the question on everyone’s lips is, ‘Will The Hoff and Pam be back?’ Currently, neither is confirmed to make any sort of cameo, with Pamela, 59, telling Deadline: ‘No one’s reached out to me. I don’t know much about it. ‘I know that they were talking to my sons at some point about producing, but I don’t think they had a meeting of the minds. I’m not sure what happened there, but I wish them well. ‘It was a great job, and I loved going to work every day on the beach. I would have been there anyway!’ Fortunately, there are several other original stars making a comeback… David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson are not expected to return (Picture: NBC) David Chokachi, 58, is back as Cody Madison, a role that launched his career as a 27-year-old in 1995. Cody also runs The Shoreline, the Baywatch bar-and-grill. Joining Chokachi and heading back to the beach is Erika Eleniak, 57, who played Shauni McClain in the first two seasons. Fox says the lifeguard is now a Santa Monica city councilwoman who returns to kick off the annual ‘Beach Games’. Michael Bergin, 57, also returns to guest star as Jack ‘J.D.’ Darius, a character he also played in Baywatch: Hawaii for 88 episodes from 1997 to 2001 and in the made-for-TV film Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003). Kelly Packard completes the OGs in another guest slot as her character April Giminski, whom the 51-year-old portrayed in seasons 8 and 9 and reprised for the 1998 direct-to-video film Baywatch: White Thunder at Glacier Bay.
