There's a ton of potential there, and it's at the point where the source material is so vast and expansive, that many studios have failed to even get some of those ideas off the ground. It might be a while until those official projects actually surface, but for now, there are tons of experiences that are the next best thing. Now, thanks to a new official update, the next Wheel of Time and Valheim vibe RPG is actually closer than expected. If you're looking for a new game to get sucked into, this might be it. Scratch Your Wheel Of Time Itch With This Survival Game After debuting on Steam Early Access, RuneScape: Dragonwilds finally has a release date of September 15. Updates have been rolling out consistently since the Early Access debut, and fans are responding positively to it, whether they're old school RuneScape fans or not. Player feedback is also a major focus for the studio, and they've implemented features like dedicated servers and new quests as a result. The game "blends iconic RuneScape lore" with the new continental setting, with classic RPG systems, exploration, and survival elements. The core loop involves locating dragons and battling them, as well as other fiends like Lich lords. Magic can be used both in and out of combat, like summoning a spectral axe as an attack or a means to cut down trees. Here's what you're in for: "On RuneScape's forgotten continent of Ashenfall, dragons have awoken. Gather, build, skill and craft in this co-operative survival adventure. Only by mastering survival and uncovering ancient secrets can you hope to face the ferocious Dragon Queen." RuneScape: Dragonwilds is currently in Early Access on Steam, where it's sitting on mostly positive user reviews. This one, in particular, highlights how easy it is to get sucked in: "After spending over 100 hours with RuneScape: Dragonwilds, I can confidently say it's one of the most enjoyable Early Access games I've played. Exploration is genuinely addictive. There's always another resource to gather, location to discover, or upgrade to work towards. It's one of those games where you log in planning to play for an hour, then suddenly realize it's midnight." Dragonwilds Hits Consoles Soon Now, we have an idea of when the game is actually coming in earnest on consoles: September 15, the same day as the PC full launch. That rollout will be for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, featuring cross-play. It'll include the Scorned Wilderness update and all content so far when 1.0 hits. In other words, it's going to have full parity when cross-play arrives. After that September rollout, more quests and activities will be added in October and November, followed by a major winter update in December (Luminance). We'll also get a new material tier and a prayer skill. If you're remotely into the idea of playing a comprehensive fantasy RPG, you may want to give RuneScape: Dragonwilds a shot.
