Waldorf Astoria is welcoming a new property into its fold. The hotelier has just opened a luxury stay in Malaysia, marking its first outpost in the Asian country. The urban retreat will be perched in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur (in the Golden Triangle District, a cultural hot spot in the metropolis) and will be home to only suites—268, to be exact. Spanning from about 860 square feet to just over 8,000 square feet, the suites offer up a fusion of Waldorf Astoria’s modern design DNA and Malaysian craftsmanship. Design firm Deboss Collective filled each room with natural stones, warm woods, pops of green and handcrafted finishes, including details inspired by traditional Malay marquetry. As for the top accommodation, the Waldorf Astoria Suite is the crème de la crème, with views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline across its over 8,000 square feet. Art is also a focus at the hotel, and Waldorf Astoria leaned into its new surroundings for inspiration, too. That includes a 19th-century painting of Qajar princes in the lobby to works from Malaysian artists scattered throughout the property—as well as a striking clock looming over the hotel’s Peacock Alley social hub. Inside the Prestige Suite. Waldorf Astoria For dining, the hotelier tapped its previous culinary collaborator, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, to debut three new restaurants on the property: JG KL, which will blend French techniques with Asian influences; abc kitchens KL, which will use local ingredients in its farm-to-table ethos; and the Bar by JG, a modern spot with light bites and cocktails. Chef Garima Arora, of the Michelin two-star Gaa in Bangkok, will take guests on a trip through India via coastal curries and elevated street food at the hotel’s Yaari. Other restaurants include Coda, another bar swathed in emerald-green hues inspired by records, and Istana, an ode to Malaysian cuisine. And if you’re looking to unwind, Waldorf Astoria has you covered there, too. The nearly 24,500-square-foot spa is focused on all things longevity and recovery, combining La Prairie treatments with private consultations, Traditional Chinese medicine, nutrition, and more. That focus on wellness continues into the suites as well, with each housing its own yoga mat. Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s JG KL. Waldorf Astoria “Waldorf Astoria has long represented the pinnacle of luxury, with a heritage of setting the standard for exceptional hospitality around the world,” Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton, said in a press statement. “From Park Avenue in New York to The Bund in Shanghai, the brand is synonymous with legendary addresses that become places to see and be seen. Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur carries that legacy forward in the heart of the Golden Triangle, with an all-suite experience that brings a distinctive residential character to one of Asia’s most dynamic cities.” The new Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur is now open; to make a reservation, head to the hotel’s website.
