Vicky McClure teases shock twists in new series of Trigger Point as writer hints ‘no one is safe’ from being written out

VICKY McCLURE is back with a bang as a bomb disposal expert in ITV thriller Trigger Point, as the show’s writer warns: “No one is safe.” Expect explosions galore in series four as fearless Lana Washington tries to keep the capital safe. And Line Of Duty star Vicky, who is also executive producer, says she doesn’t care about the budget as they go for maximum impact. Chris said of the six-part series: “I’m just in my pyjamas, planting bombs! This show thrives on cliffhangers and surprises, and there’s plenty more to come. No one’s safe . . . no one. You’re there hoping you do surprise people and they will keep coming back for it. “Every episode is about tightening the screw until it has to break at some point. It’s great fun.” Series four kicks off with Afghan veteran Lana having therapy before needing to defuse a bomb in a moving lorry on its way to blow up the Bank of England. “I had a lot of fun doing that,” smiled Vicky. “It was such a bonkers scenario because one minute we were in the tunnel, then we were in the studio, and it was kind of pieced together. “When I first watched it, I was, like, ‘Come on, just open things’. Like, getting annoyed. But that’s the whole point. You can’t just be frantic — there’s the method of it all — so I really enjoyed the lorry scene. Chris and the team have really gone for it.” Vicky says she improvised the therapy session to make it feel more authentic. “I can try that rather than, you know, the technical stuff,” she explained. “I’ve got to stick to the script. “You know, we’ve got to make sure the professionals have run with that, not me. But it was lovely to be able to hit the ground running with the therapy stuff and go, ‘OK, well let’s just try it because it could all end up on the cutting room floor’.” Also returning to the show are bomb disposal officers — known as EXPOs — Eric Shango as Danny and Nabil Elouahabi as Hass. Natalie Simpson is back as DS Helen Morgan, as is Maanuv Thiara as DCI Batra. Julie Graham also joins as Commander Nia Quentin. Trigger Point starts on August 30. NO HALF-BAKED ACTION WE can expect more high-energy scenes from Vicky in Trigger Point – fuelled by treats from a certain British bakery. The actress revealed pasty purveyors Greggs delivered a van to the set, complete with its own disco and beach. “We had the most epic Greggs visit ever,” beamed Vicky. “This massive van came with a silent disco and a big beach. They were there for the whole day. “It was very disruptive and I just loved every minute.” Vicky says she needed a sugary pick-me-up after spending hours wearing weighty bombproof gear. “It’s heavy, but it saves lives – or at least it saves limbs,” she said. “It’s an amazing piece of kit. But I’m not the real thing, so there’s absolutely no moaning in that regard. “It’s a privilege to wear it, to be honest. “It has air-con – but if you want the air-con, you’ve got to put water in it, which makes it heavier. So it’s a conundrum.” STAR ALWAYS ON DUTY THERE are secrets galore locked away in Vicky’s brain. Not only confidential information about the drama that is to come in Trigger Point, but also the explosive tales that await Line Of Duty fans. Filming recently wrapped on the hotly anticipated seventh series, which drops next year, and sees Vicky, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar return to the hit BBC police show. “There’s a lot of secrets to keep,” laughed Vicky. “I mean, I do think sometimes it’s a bit dramatic, the industry – it’s a bit MI5. ‘Oh, you know, sign an NDA for this script’, like we’re gonna, you know, copy it and get a green light tomorrow, which is impossible. “So I do think sometimes it’s excessive. But then for the audience’s sake, I wouldn’t dream of saying anything. “I think if my family ask, they probably know a lot – but don’t approach!” TV’S NEW AI’S GOT TALENT A NEW AI version of The X Factor is in the works. Real life singers are being sought to provide vocals for fake boyband Configure 4 and girlband Girl FX for the show called Make My Band. Human hosts will be joined by AI co-stars in the bonkers take on a talent show, with its creators said to be in final talks with Prime Video and the BBC. The concept taps into the rise of K-pop music and comes as Spotify and Radio 1 move to embrace AI-generated music. Showrunner Leighton James said of Make My Band: “It’s the K-pop music era Britain has been waiting for, shaped entirely by the fans who love it.” Makers hope the show will air later this year.
