UTAS welcomes admission of over 10,000 students

Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has welcomed more than 10,000 students across its branches and academic programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year, with the number of admitted and registered students reaching 10,563.Data on registered students showed that all admitted students are Omani nationals, with female students accounting for 5,868, compared with 4,695 male students. The newly registered students are distributed among the university’s branches across the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. Ibri branch recorded the highest number with 1,935 students, followed by Muscat with 1,581 students, Shinas with 1,337 students and Salalah with 1,313 students. The remaining students are distributed among the university’s branches in Nizwa, Ibra, Al Musannah, Sohar, Sur, Al Rustaq and Musandam.At the academic programme level, Business Administration and Commercial Studies programmes attracted the largest number of new students, with 3,372 students, followed by Engineering programmes with 3,077 students and Computer and Information Science programmes with 2,947 students. Creative Industries programmes recorded 530 students, followed by Education programmes with 358 students, and Applied Sciences and Pharmacy programmes with 279 students.The university also recorded demand for a number of specialised programmes, including Applied Sciences, Applied Biotechnology, Media and Mass Communication, Design and Teacher Preparation programmes, reflecting the range of academic options offered by the university.The registration process took place from 20 to 25 August 2026, during which the university registered more than 10,000 students, with 10 withdrawals recorded.UTAS continues to develop its learning environments, infrastructure and modern educational technologies, while expanding partnerships with the government and private sectors. These efforts support the provision of applied education, as well as training and qualification opportunities aimed at enhancing graduates’ readiness for the labour market.The university also supports initiatives adopted in line with national directions, including the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries, supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Education.The programme enables students from brotherly and friendly countries residing in the Sultanate of Oman, who have completed Grade 12 at an Omani or international school in the Sultanate, to apply for tuition-fee-exempt scholarships at the university through the Unified Admission Centre.During the 2026/2027 academic year, the university seeks to provide a conducive educational environment and support the advancement of education in the Sultanate of Oman through the development of infrastructure and educational and service facilities.Through its various branches and diverse academic programmes, UTAS continues to fulfil its mission of preparing qualified national cadres equipped with the technical, professional and digital skills needed to compete and innovate, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in education, national capacity development and future skills
