After taking a shower, Jenkins noticed red marks across her face, neck, arms, back and stomach."I knew it was bedbugs because I'd been through it before, but nothing like this," she told the Daily Mail, describing how she had more than 100 bites across her body. Jenkins said she then inspected her bedding and spotted a bedbug crawling on top of her duvet. She also claimed to have found around 40 dead bedbugs in the bed and recorded a video of the insect she had spotted. She reported the issue to the hotel reception and was offered another room. However, she said she was told that a refund could not be arranged because her workplace had paid for the booking. She was also offered a complimentary cup of coffee. The woman eventually moved to another hotel, but said her symptoms continued to worsen over the following days. The itching became so severe that she described her skin as feeling like it was on fire.Jenkins, who lived near Caerphilly in Wales, said she visited a pharmacist and was given antihistamines after the itching intensified and more bites appeared. She later went to A&E on October 19 after her left arm became swollen and bright red.Doctors prescribed her a course of steroids, with Jenkins describing the episode as one of the most stressful experiences of her life. She also said the condition forced her to miss a baby shower and stay indoors over the weekend.Although her symptoms eventually improved after treatment, Jenkins said the experience had put her off staying at the hotel chain altogether. She told the Daily Mail that she had no intention of accepting a free weekend stay offered by the hotel after her workplace filed a complaint. The hotel then contacted her employer, acknowledged the presence of bedbugs and offered the complimentary stay as a gesture.Responding to the allegations, a spokesperson for Holiday Inn Express Exeter East said the hotel understood how upsetting the experience must have been and took matters involving cleanliness and guest wellbeing seriously."We are looking into the concerns raised. We are in contact with the guest directly," the spokesperson said.- Ends
