Two Nintendo Directs confirmed for next week and one is all about Zelda

| Games News Reporter Published September 4, 2026 3:30pm Updated September 4, 2026 3:44pm These things are like buses (Nintendo/Metro) Before the traditional general September showcase, Nintendo is celebrating The Legend Of Zelda’s 40th anniversary with a separate Direct that’s bound to feature the Ocarina Of Time remake. Yesterday, Sony ran two State of Play showcases back-to-back – with one focused on games from Asia – and both proved incredibly underwhelming, with the biggest reveals being a GTA 6 PlayStation 5 controller and a release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Now, Nintendo is following Sony’s example, with two Nintendo Directs, but they stand a much better of chance of being interesting, as one of them is guaranteed to show more of the remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. Announced via the Nintendo Today app, a showcase for The Legend Of Zelda’s 40th anniversary will air on September 8 at 3pm BST and will run for about 30 minutes. Aside from Ocarina Of Time news, such as gameplay and a release date, this could be where Nintendo will show a trailer for next year’s live action movie too. Not to mention the Zelda themed Switch 2 and controller that leaked last month. The most important questions revolve around the remake itself, as only a few seconds of footage has been shown so far. It implies a game with a relatively photorealistic art style but what’s impossible to know at the moment is whether it’s a 1:1 remake, in the style of Star Fox or something that plays more loosely with the original design and mechanics. You’re probably not looking at a Final Fantasy 7 style reimagining but it’s Nintendo, so who knows. As for the second Direct, that will air the day after on September 9, at 3pm BST, and will run for approximately 45 minutes, to showcase upcoming games releasing this winter. There’s also a Treehouse live event after the general Direct. This will almost certainly show live gameplay of some of the games mentioned, but it’s unknown whether that will include Zelda. Considering we expected Nintendo’s next showcase to focus solely on Nintendo Switch Sports Resort – it’s next Switch 2 exclusive after Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – this is certainly a welcome surprise. It’s also surprising when it had previously been speculated that a new Direct would air on September 10, thanks to comments by Ubisoft regarding the next Just Dance game. Even so, you can probably expect that to be one of the third party games shown during the general Direct, as well as The Duskbloods since that still lacks a release date – even after the recent network test. And since Nintendo only specifies this winter, perhaps there’ll be a glimpse at what the company has planned for early 2027. Nintendo’s first party release schedule for winter is otherwise pretty barebones. After Nintendo Switch Sports Resort in October and the Ocarina Of Time remake, all it has is a Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in December.
