Traffic Police ask app-based partners to curb rides, deliveries in restricted zones

Delhi Traffic Police has asked people to avoid restricted areas and urged app-based services to regulate operations. The move aims to reduce movement during protests while keeping emergency services running.The traffic advisory has been issued amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar. Delhi Traffic Police on Friday issued a traffic advisory asking people to avoid travelling to areas under prohibitory orders unless it is absolutely necessary. It also advised app-based mobility, food delivery and e-commerce platforms to regulate their operations in the notified zones.The advisory has been issued amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar. Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, in key parts of the capital to maintain public order.Police said ride-hailing platforms, food delivery services, quick-commerce operators, logistics providers and other e-commerce entities should take note of the restrictions while operating their digital platforms in the affected areas.The advisory said these companies may adopt steps such as temporary geo-fencing of restricted locations or suspending ride and delivery services to and from the notified areas, wherever operationally feasible. According to police, these measures are aimed at protecting drivers, riders, delivery partners and the general public, while reducing movement into restricted zones. Members of the public have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to the affected areas, cooperate with police personnel and follow lawful directions on the ground.Citizens were also urged to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes wherever possible. Emergency services, including ambulances, fire services, authorised government vehicles and other exempted categories, will continue to operate as permitted, the advisory said. The Delhi Police also appealed to people not to circulate rumours or unverified information and to rely only on official advisories.
