Tokyo's drinking alleys inform interior of Genso restaurant by Joyce Wang Studio

The Genso restaurant in Hong Kong's Sha Tin Racecourse draws inspiration from Tokyo's Golden Gai, featuring lanterns and alley-like walkways that create an immersive, nostalgic atmosphere. Designed by Joyce Wang Studio, the two-floor dining space taps into the unique cultural aesthetics of Tokyo's drinking alleys, blending them with local elements. This fusion highlights the growing trend of incorporating international design influences to enhance dining experiences, particularly in regions with a strong cultural connection to such locales. The restaurant adds to the racecourse's offerings, which have catered to Hong Kong's passion for horse racing since its opening in 1978.
