THREE people have been injured after a nightclub ceiling collapsed onto a packed dance floor at a British holiday hotspot. The trio were taken to the University Clinical Hospital of Malaga after the terrifying incident in the early hours of Sunday morning. Their injuries are not yet known, nor have their nationalities been confirmed. The packed club was in full swing when its decorative false ceiling suddenly gave way just before 1am. A huge chunk of decorative cornice also came crashing down onto the dance floor, sending shockwaves through the packed venue. Witnesses in the Plaza de la Nogalera raised the alarm after seeing part of the roof collapse without warning. Firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of Malaga raced to the scene alongside several Torremolinos Local Police patrols. Crews secured the stricken area, checked for structural damage and worked to rule out the terrifying possibility of another collapse. Police also cordoned off the area to clear the way for emergency crews and prevent crowds gathering around the danger zone. The 061 Health Emergency Centre sent an ambulance, with paramedics assessing the injured before rushing all three to hospital. All three were reportedly conscious and stable when they were admitted, although no medical reports detailing the severity of their injuries have been released. The nightclub has since been sealed off as a precaution while technical reports are carried out by Torremolinos council and the Junta de Andalucía. The collapse has also raised fresh questions over safety at entertainment venues during the height of the tourist season. Ave María only opened its doors on June 3 and had quickly become a popular nightlife spot in Torremolinos. The Plaza de la Nogalera is a bustling pedestrian area packed with bars, terraces and nightclubs that draws thousands of residents and tourists every weekend. Now investigators are probing how a venue opened less than two months ago suffered such a shocking structural failure. Officers will also examine whether the nightclub met all the necessary technical requirements when it opened.
