This Indian city, the world thinks, has better nightlife than Mumbai and Delhi

An Indian city has featured on Time Out's world's 20 best cities for nightlife in 2026. For some travellers, explrong nightlife of a city is simply part of the itinerary. Bangkok has built a global reputation around its after dark energy. It's a different vibe.In India, Mumbai and Delhi usually dominate the conversation when it comes to bustling nightlife. But there’s another city making a name for itself after hours — making a name globally, in fact, and that's Bengaluru.Time Out’s latest ranking of the Best Cities for Nightlife 2026, created in partnership with Intrepid Travel, has placed Bengaluru at the 17 position globally. No Mumbai. No Delhi. It’s Bengaluru that has made the cut, putting India’s tech capital firmly on the world nightlife map.And this isn't the first time the city has caught international attention when it comes to food, culture and social scene. Earlier this year, Bengaluru was ranked 13th among the world’s best food cities. Of course, rankings like these are bound to spark debate. Whether Bengaluru truly deserves to outrank Mumbai or Delhi is a conversation of its own. But here's why it ranks among the top 20 cities across the world for its nightlife. Time Out’s editors and nightlife experts then weighed in on the final list. Nightlife quality scored 71 per cent, while community feel scored an impressive 82 per cent. Affordability, however, was a weaker point at 54 per cent. When asked what makes their city’s nights worth stepping out for, respondents picked street life (55 per cent) and casual bars (50 per cent).What's alluring people is not just the run-of-the-mill bars and dance nights. Much like everything else that people are attracted to, it's the experience of it all.So, while old haunts like Pecos, Toit and Bire Club remain part of the city’s drinking culture, Time Out points to newer-to-the-scene addresses across Ulsoor, Rajajinagar and Whitefield. Fret not, Indiranagar, MG Road and Koramangala still remain on the charts.At Dali & Gala on Museum Road, for instance, drinking comes with a side of surrealism. Inspired by Salvador Dail and his muse Gala, the cocktail bar combines art, theatrical interiors, cocktails and Burmese small plates. Then there's Middle Room, a listening bar with vinyl, craft beer and cocktails. The global listing also mentioned Bar Doubble and Bar Cameo.Honestly, this city has got bars that are winning global recognition individually as well.Nightlife is increasingly becoming less about the traditional nightclub and more about finding a scene — live music, comedy, drag, supper clubs, breweries, intimate cocktail rooms, late-night cafes or spaces built around a particular community. Bengaluru has got it all.In fact, queer nightlife has added another layer to it, with spaces and events such as Kitty Ko and Dude Party creating more room for community-led nights out.Meanwhile, Bangkok, emerged as the world's best city for nightlife, followed by Berlin and New York City.
