For fans looking for the Queen of Crime, Agatha Christie, there's no better place than BritBox. Not only does the British streaming platform host older adaptations of the author's stories, but it's currently behind several modern adaptations of the novels that will bring her beloved characters back to life. Among them is the upcoming series Hercule, with Edward Bluemel playing a younger version of Hercule Poirot, and Tommy & Tuppence, which premieres next month on September 15, 2026. The series, starring Josh Dylan and Antonia Thomas as the titular characters, follows a duo of amateur detectives as they solve murders. The original characters of Thomas and Prudence "Tuppence" Beresford were featured in four novels and one short story collection of Christie's between 1922 and 1973. Now, they'll be coming to life on the small screen with a modern, fresh twist. What Is 'Tommy & Tuppence' About? As in Christie's novels, the series will follow Tommy and Tuppence as a duo of married detectives as they run in to murder, investigate what happened and often land themselves in hot water along the way. Unlike Christie's most infamous characters, however, what set Tommy and Tuppence apart was the fact that they aged in real time. They're in their twenties when they're introduced in The Secret Adversary in 1922, and they're past retirement age in 1973's Postern of Fate. In the series, however, Dylan and Thomas will be right at the beginning of their sleuthing journey. "They fall in love, fall out of it, and tumble back in, all while solving some thrilling, entertaining mysteries along the way," the official synopsis reads. Along the way, the detectives rely on Imelda Staunton's Aunt Ada, a retired private investigator who serves as the duo's guide, as well as someone who often keeps them in check. In addition to Dylan, Thomas and Staunton, the cast also includes Nicholas Richardson, Charlie Condou, Callie Cooke, and Chizzy Akudolu. 'Tommy & Tuppence' Will Give the Original Duo a Modern Twist The upcoming series will be the first time the story has ever been given a contemporary English-language setting. Previous adaptations, like the 1983 series Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime and its 2015 update, starring David Walliams and Jessica Raine, kept the period setting. The new six-episode series, however, will take the characters and their sizzling chemistry to modern day. "To bring Tommy and Tuppence into the twenty-first century is truly an honor," writer Phoebe Eclair-Powell said in the announcement. "Christie's detective duo are witty, sharp and raring to solve lots and lots of murders whilst asking if they should really be more than just Partners in Crime." Executive producer Katie Draper echoed the excitement. "Phoebe’s wonderful scripts combine screwball comedy, playful romance and thrilling murder to bring an exhilarating modern-day twist to Christie’s iconic detective duo," Draper said. "With Phoebe Eclair-Powell’s superb writing and Lookout Point’s stellar production team, this series promises to be a fun blend of romance and mystery. We can’t wait for BritBox audiences to fall in love with Tommy and Tuppence all over again as they navigate murder, mystery, and mischief," said Robert Schildhouse, President, BritBox North America and General Manager, BritBox International. In just a little over two weeks, BritBox's new Agatha Christie-inspired series Tommy & Tuppence will be arriving on streaming. With a stellar cast, an exciting mystery, and a modern twist to characters longtime readers of Christie know and love, the series could become BritBox's next big hit, as well as finally expanding the beloved characters into a whole new world and era.
