These 3 Qi2 accessories changed the way I use my phone forever

As a long-term Android user, MagSafe was the biggest source of envy for me when looking at iPhones. Built-in magnets inside smartphones open the door to a million creative accessories, eliminating the need for 3M adhesive or annoying clamps. It is a beautiful solution to a hundred different accessory-related problems. Magnetic Qi2 coming to the Pixel 10 series natively was primarily why I jumped off the OnePlus bandwagon and dived into the Google Pixel ecosystem. Did it disappoint? Absolutely not. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that it changed the way I use my phone for good. Of all the countless magnetic accessories out there, there are three specific Qi2 accessories that have rewired my brain. I can no longer imagine what life was like without them. Here’s what they are. A sturdy magnetic phone grip Heavy-duty and glue-less PopSockets PopGrip Brand PopSockets Material Polycarbonate Magnetic No The PopSockets PopGrip MagSafe is a fantastic, adhesive-free grip that works beautifully with magnetic Qi2 devices. Humans have evolved over millennia, but our fingers haven’t adapted to our doom-scrolling habits just yet. Who needs creepy long fingers anyway, when you can support your normal-sized fingers with a solid phone grip instead? I didn’t realize how much my phone’s weight was bearing down on my fingers until I relieved them of their burden. A phone grip is magical, especially when you’ve got small hands and a comically large phone. Your pinky finger in particular will thank you for getting one. Traditionally, most phone grips have always relied on 3M adhesive or glue of some sort to stick to phone cases. But magnetic Qi2 phone grips rewrite the script. It is such a massive relief to plop a phone grip on and off at will, no mucking around with glue required. Plus, you can reuse the grip as you like, without ever having to reapply glue or scrape off sticky goo from the back of a phone case. There is no going back from here. A sleek, clamp-free phone stand No messing about with stupid clamps Standard phone stands come with arms, legs, and all manner of nonsensical body parts. Often, those parts are constructed with plastic, which expands, cracks, and breaks over time. Each brand or manufacturer uses a different clamp style, with some too small or too tall. I can’t count the number of times I’ve broken a nail trying to put a phone that was too large in a clamp that was allegedly the right size but just wouldn’t open wide enough. And if you got your phone stand from a no-name online seller, it’s most likely going to cave in sooner rather than later. The beauty of a Qi2 phone stand is that it needs nothing more than really strong magnets to prop your phone up. It is a minimalist’s dream — the perfect clutter-free accessory. All you do is slap your phone onto the magnet, and it holds your phone up. Once this became a habit for me, it was impossible to use any other phone stand. I am so reliant on magnetic phone stands that I have installed a magnetic plate on my laptop, and even have a Qi2 wallet that comes with a magnetic stand! Whether I’m working out of a case or watching something on my phone on an airplane, I always have a magnetic Qi2 phone stand at the ready. A minimal Qi2 car phone mount The most freeing driving experience Speaking of clamps, a car phone mount is the final boss of bad phone stands and mounts. They have terrible clamping mechanisms and arms, and they're shaky and come undone when you hit a speed bump. Do yourself a favor and throw that crappy old car phone holder out. Switching over to a Qi2 car holder cooled my soul. I abhor having to tighten the screen on a car phone mount, only to have my device go flying across the vehicle at the worst possible moment. And if you’re in a rental car, you’re almost guaranteed to get the most diabolical iteration of badly made, all-plastic-and-no-substance mounts. Accessory brands have upped their car phone holder game since Qi2 hit the market. You can even score wireless charging Qi2 car mounts, with certain brands incorporating cooling systems into their versions. What a time to be alive! They might be basic, but these accessories are fundamental game changers As simplistic as these three Qi2 accessories are, they are the bread and butter of the magnetic accessory world. I could not revert to a world where they didn’t exist. I could name scores of magnetic Qi2 accessories I love, but none are as iconic or as fundamentally important to me as a user as these three.
