Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, episode 5!The Walking Dead: Dead City is about to have its most unique episode ever. A new trailer for season 3, episode 6 has been released, showcasing the spinoff's alternate universe episode as Maggie and Negan meet in another life. Dead City season 3 has included some wild twists and turns in its story as Maggie and Renata's community has expanded, with Negan being at the center of the biggest story beats. This includes the harrowing ending of season 3, episode 5, when he shoots and kills Fabian in front of Renata, who threatens to arrest him for it. Now, AMC has released a new trailer for Dead City season 3, episode 6, confirming next week's installment will be the show's long-awaited alternate universe episode. The trailer begins with Negan in the real world, seemingly about to be confronted by Renata's promised army. The scene then cuts to Maggie in a populated Manhattan, seemingly visiting the city with Beth by her side. At the end of the trailer, she shakes hands with Negan, meeting him for the first time in this universe. Check out the full trailer below: Dead City's main characters have had many ups and downs throughout their time together. Negan killing Glenn was the catalyst for Maggie's anger toward him, leading them on the path that eventually wound its way to Mahattan. As for Negan, his personality as a ruthless killer was cultivated after the death of his wife, Lucille, but also drew upon his own experiences in the post-apocalypse. This what-if style episode decides to explore what would have happened if the pair had met without any of the weight that currently exists in their tense alliance. The show hinted at this upcoming premise during its latest episode, when Negan said he and Maggie may have been friends in another life. However, in the real timeline, it seems like the possibility of a strong connection is slowly eroding. While Negan killed Fabian because he was plotting to kill Maggie, Renata still sees murder as something that will destabilize the community if it goes unpunished. Her threat to return to arrest him seems more like a promise, with her energy as The Walking Dead's latest leader about to be unleashed. As for Maggie, she's still hoping to preserve peace in her community, which includes trying to let Negan in more than before. Of course, now that Fabian is dead, it's possible their relationship will revert to when Dead City season 2 ended, a tense unease that may keep them from growing past Negan's nature. But it's possible whatever happens in the alternate universe will have thematic resonance with the man timeline. It might just inform how the final episodes are going to play out. With only three episodes remaining, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 is hurtling toward a dramatic conclusion for its core characters. Given Negan's unwillingness to bend his rule about killing threats to the community, it seems like a clash of both people and ideals will be on the docket for the foreseeable future. But, with the alternate universe episode about to unfold, it may be a good reprieve before things are, ultimately, never the same again.
