With extensive experience playing video games, he covers all forms of gaming content at Screen Rant, from breaking news to the latest fan theories. Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond. Glenn's death in The Walking Dead Season 7 was hands-down one of the most shocking and heartbreaking moments in the entire series, and probably even the entire franchise. We all loved Glenn, who was a core part of the show from its very first season, and the decision to kill him off remains a divisive one among fans. However, Glenn's death wasn't simply for shock value. It mirrored his fate in Robert Kirkman's original comics, and Kirkman later explained that losing Glenn was essential to the future storylines of Rick, Maggie, and Negan. Steven Yeun faced a bittersweet reality, as the actor actually supported preserving Glenn's iconic comic-book death, despite not wanting to depart the series. Still, plenty of fans feel the show was never quite the same without Glenn. Now, almost exactly a decade later however, The Walking Dead has officially brought him back from the grave in an unexpected new release. Glenn Rhee is officially returning in The Walking Dead: Aftermath, with developer Ares Interactive unveiling a brand-new "Survivor File" on October 18 detailing the fan-favorite character's abilities, weapons, and combat mechanics. It's a welcome comeback for one of the original show's most beloved characters, especially considering his controversial death a decade ago. According to the official announcement, Glenn is classified as an Epic-rarity, Acid-based Shotgun Specialist, armed with a tactical shotgun and throwing knives. His fighting style focuses on close-to-medium-range attacks, allowing players to tear through groups of walkers while inflicting additional Acid damage: "Glenn rewards players who find room to fire, manage the gaps between magazines, and reposition before threats close in." One of Glenn's signature mechanics, appropriately named "Stand and Deliver," rewards players for holding their ground by increasing his Attack Speed and Damage. However, his shotgun has a lengthy reload time, making timing and positioning essential. Additional upgrades can improve his reload speed, increase projectile counts, and even create Acid explosions with throwing knives. There's also a particularly fun callback to Glenn's earliest appearance in the television series. His three-star Ultimate ability, "Hey, you. Dumbass.", references his first run-in with Rick and gives players combat bonuses once they've accumulated enough kills. It's a clever tribute to the character's origins, and one longtime fans will appreciate. For anyone unfamiliar with The Walking Dead: Aftermath, it's a free-to-play mobile roguelite developed by Swift Games, an Ares Interactive studio, in partnership with AMC. Originally released in July 2026, the game lets players control iconic survivors from the series, including Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Maggie, etc., battling walker hordes and hostile human enemies. Gameplay features randomized upgrades, weapon progression, resource gathering, base-building mechanics, etc., and players can also explore familiar settings like Hershel's Farm, Woodbury, and Alexandria. Regular updates continue expanding the experience, with a recent October update introducing a competitive PvP mode. Reception has been pretty great so far among mobile players, particularly on Google Play, where Aftermath currently boasts a 4.6/5 rating from nearly 50,000 ratings, including thousands of four- and five-star scores, alongside more than one million downloads. Apple's App Store has an even higher 4.8/5 rating from approximately 4,800 ratings. For longtime Walking Dead fans, Glenn's return is yet another compelling reason to give the game a shot.
