The VERY awkward moment I saw which proves soap love rivals Jen Metcalfe & Samia Longchambon’s 14-year feud still rages

IT’S the longest running feud in soap history – and it appears tensions are still sky high between Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe and Corrie’s Samia Longchambon. Both stars attended the Tric awards last week, and if fans were hoping for signs hostilities over ex Dancing on Ice skater Sylvain Longchambon may finally have thawed, they would have been sorely disappointed if the awkward run-in I witnessed is anything to go by. He later ended their romance, and has been with Samia, who he wed in 2016, ever since. Since then the one time love rivals had done everything they could to avoid each other at showbiz events – but surely now both had moved on? Seemingly not. When Jennifer, 42, was asked inside the bash: ‘Is it awkward seeing Samia at these things or have you all moved on from it?” her protective BFF and cast mate Nadine Mulkerrin, 33, who plays her on-screen cousin Cleo McQueen, jumped in bellowing: “No”. She then steered the Hollyoaks star away and the pair promptly stormed off. Awkwardly, they walked straight past Samia, who picked up on the tension and was then spotted talking furiously on her phone using her hand to cover her mouth so that no-one in the vicinity could hear what she was saying. A soap source said: “Nadine is very protective of Jen. The pair are best friends, their kids are growing up together and they spend a lot of time together, even going on family holidays. “Nadine knows how hard it was for Jen to get over everything that happened with Samia. No-one at Hollyoaks will ever forget. It’s ironic, that after all these years, they still have to see each other as they are BOTH still on screen in the same soap genre. It all happened so publicly at the time – it’s hard for people to forget.” Jen had started dating hunky Frenchman Sylvain after also being partnered with him on Dancing on Ice in 2011, and for two years the couple were inseparable. Jen later admitted he made her believe that marriage and babies were on the cards and she had initially not been concerned about the pairing. After all, Samia had been in a year-long relationship with her former Corrie co-star, Will Thorp. They both said the separation was mutual and their relationship had fizzled out due to Will having to travel south for work after leaving Corrie. During an interview that Samia gave ahead of the series launch, and before Sylvain ended things with Jen, she said: “Sylvain is brilliant. He is so patient, kind and thoughtful. “I can see how you’d end up in a relationship with your partner. You get to know each other intensely and there is a lot of trust.” So when he finally told Jen that he had developed feelings for Samia, her whole world fell apart. Sylvain cruelly dumped Jen on Christmas Day 2012. A few weeks later the heartbroken actress gave a tell-all interview, which she reportedly got paid £20k for, where she revealed her love rival left her gutted and the break-up felt like a death. Speaking in January 2013 Jen said: “It’s like a death. I felt gutted. It was the worst Christmas ever. It is a grieving. When you cut someone out of your life like that it’s pretty harsh. “Our relationship was great, a really good two years. I loved the guy unconditionally inside and out. He adored me in every way.” The pair had seen each just before Christmas, with Jen recalling at the time: “Things were still great in the bedroom. As far as I was concerned the chemistry was still there.” However, after Samia had split from Will, Jen confronted her boyfriend. She revealed: “I said to him, ‘Have you and Samia spoken about your feelings? I’m not stupid, I know what’s going on, I’m a woman.’ And he said, ‘No, not at all,’ and he lied a little bit and that’s not fair after two years.” Jennifer then feared the worst when he asked her not to contact him over the Christmas break because he “needed space”. This was agony for Jennifer, who went on: “We were used to speaking and texting every single day. I’m quite a black and white person, so limbo was the worst place to be for me over Christmas. “I’d rather someone not be with me than keep me there. It was so hard. I had to make the call.” It was early on Christmas Day when Sylvain broke the shattering news Jennifer had been dreading. She recalled: “In the early hours of Christmas morning he told me on the phone that Samia and himself had had a conversation about their feelings for each other. “He said he fancied Samia but in the next breath he said he loved and adored me — so try and get your head around that one.” Selfish Sylvain also told her that Samia had made it clear to him the attraction was mutual. Jennifer said: “Samia had told him she liked him when she finished with her boyfriend. It was a hard pill to swallow for me.” After three days the pair spoke again on the phone — and this time Sylvain said it was over. Jennifer asked him to reconsider but it was too late. During the interview she also called Samia “naive”. She said: “You wouldn’t like it if someone told your boyfriend they loved them. But I’m not sure it makes them a bad person, it makes them naive.” During press for Dancing on Ice Samia insisted that she had nothing to apologise to Jen for and was still single. She said: “My family and friends know the truth. I have not got anything to say to Jennifer because I don’t need to justify anything. Me and my boyfriend split up for personal reasons to us. “I’m single, and it’s sad when you split up. I don’t want to go into details why we split up but it certainly has nothing to do with anyone else. I’ve done nothing wrong.” Samia and Sylvain were inseparable while competing together on Dancing on Ice, and then went public with their relationship in March 2013. In May 2013 at the British Soap Awards, which were held at Media City in Manchester, Samia did not attend the event to avoid a red-carpet showdown with Jen. Jen was all smiles and wore a plunging tux jacket on the night, doing everything she could to put what happened behind her. Samia now has two kids with Sylvain and Jennifer went on to date Geordie Shore star Greg Lake for eight years, with whom she shares a son . They split in 2020. She has been dating a guy called Josh since 2024, but has kept the relationship mostly secret. So surely, their feud is in the past? Apparently not.
