EXCLUSIVE: Rory Kennedy’s feature documentary The Trial of Alec Baldwin is heading to the international market after Blue Ant Media acquired the global licensing rights. The move comes two weeks after Abramorama acquired the U.S. domestic rights to the film about the aftermath of the fallout of the Rust shooting and set an October theatrical debut. Blue Ant will take the film to Mipcom and pitch it to international broadcasters and streamers. The Trial of Alec Baldwin follows the actor through the personal and legal fallout from the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in 2021 and the legal and media storm that followed. Oscar-nominated Kennedy, who is behind Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, Ethel, and Last Days in Vietnam, approached Baldwin about her participation in their documentary in March of 2023 and began filming later that spring. It features previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage and reconstructs the events surrounding Hutchins’ death.
