THE Chase’s Shaun Wallace has revealed what the future holds for the original version of the ITV gameshow. Its spin-off Chase Around the World is currently airing, which sees six pairs hunt for the six chasers in locations around Europe in a bid to win £100K. Now, Shaun, 66, has told The Sun new episodes of The Chase are likely to follow suit, having already been recorded. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! In an exclusive chat, he told us: “We’ve got enough in the can. “So obviously, you know what’s happening in terms of ITV, in terms of the financial cutbacks, which is understandable. So we’ve recorded quite a few in the can. And they say that will be brought back sometime next year. We’ll wait and see.” Last year it was reported up to 440 jobs could be axed by the broadcaster in a bid to slash bloated production costs. It even saw ITV Daytime’s roster relocate to new studios in Central London away from its White City home. The Chase continues to be filmed at Elstree Studios in Boreham Wood. “I’ve never, from the moment I did the first pilot, I’m only as good as the last question I answer correctly,” continued Shaun. “And as long as the ITV commissioning panel, they determine whether or not we have enough series. So I’ve always never taken that for granted. Most read in Showbiz “But for us to have lasted this long is a testament not only to the show, but everybody in terms of the producers, the runners, everybody. Bradley is the reason why it had lasted that long. But the one thing I’ve never taken for granted is that we’re going to get another series.” One thing Shaun won’t stand for is the addition of a new chaser. He was one of the two original quizzers who launched the show 17 years ago, alongside with Mark Labbett. The show now has six chasers in total. Anne ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegerty joined in 2010 and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha in 2011, before Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan entered the fold in 2015 and most recently Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis became a chaser in 2020, having triumphed as a contestant. “I can’t see any other chasers being appointed,” he told The Sun, speaking on behalf of Gambling.com, the home of UK casino sites. “And if it got too crowded, I’d probably leave. “There was three of us for two years. Then there was four of us for five. And, you know, that’s when they decided that we needed another female chaser, which I think was good. “And they actually had a competition to see who the best one [was]. Jenny came out on top by a mile.” When asked if he had a limit for the number of chasers on the books that he’d accept, he continued: “I think if they had one more, then I’d consider it [quitting]. Because it would look ridiculous to have too many chasers.” Shaun Wallace was speaking courtesy of Gambling.com, where he works as the Head of Smarter Gambling. Comment now
