The Avalanches – “Blue Shadows” (Feat. Karen O)

The Avalanches have lately been cryptically teasing a new album, and they've also been dropping collaborative singles — first "Together" with Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss, and then "Every Single Weekend" with Jamie xx. Today, they quietly posted a video for another new song, and this one is a team-up with Yeah Yeah Yeahs leader Karen O.On the new single "Blue Shadows," the Avalanches supply a sunny, rustic lope of a beat, and Karen O sings about mending a broken heart. It's a fully laid-back song, a reminder that chillwave never could've existed without the Avalanches' influence, and it's cool to hear Karen's voice on something like this. "Blue Shadows" isn't the first time that Karen O has collaborated with the Avalanches. On the band's last album, 2020's We Will Always Love You, Karen appeared on the interlude track "Dial D For Devotion," reciting some of late Avalanches collaborator David Berman's Purple Mountains lyrics. This is the first time she's really gotten a chance to sing on an Avalanches track, though. Check it out below."Blue Shadows" is out now on Modular.
