Actor Teri Hatcher is stepping into one of the most iconic roles on the West End stage. The former Desperate Housewives star will replace Vanessa Williams as the sharp-tongued fashion boss Miranda Priestly in the London production of The Devil Wears Prada from October 20.Hatcher, 61, will relocate from Los Angeles to London to take over the role in the hit musical. Speaking about the new chapter in her life during a HELLO! photoshoot in Paris, the actor said she is excited to bring her experiences and growth to the iconic character."I've experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my Devil Wears Prada performance," Teri told the magazine. "I feel like this is a gift for me, to arrive into a Teri Hatcher that I haven't got to be yet, and I'm so excited for it."Although Hatcher is yet to watch the London production, her daughter Emerson, 28, has already seen Vanessa Williams perform at the Dominion Theatre and encouraged her mother to take on the role. "She saw Vanessa in it and said it was great, so when the opportunity came my way she was the first person to say: ‘Oh my god, you have to do it, you're going to have so much fun,'" Hatcher recalled.A self-confessed "huge fan" of the original 2006 film as well as its hit sequel, Hatcher has already begun preparing for her West End debut as Miranda Priestly. She has also been in touch with Vanessa Williams, as well as Matt Henry, who plays Miranda's colleague Nigel, ahead of taking over the role. While Teri Hatcher is best known for her roles in Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, she is no stranger to musical theatre. Over the years, she has taken on several notable roles, including Sally Bowles in the national tour of Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret and Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, it follows journalist Andy Sachs as she lands a coveted job at Runway magazine, where she finds herself working under the demanding and formidable Miranda Priestly. The musical features music by Elton John and is produced by Kevin McCollum, David Furnish and Jamie Wilson.The production first ran at Theatre Royal Plymouth in summer 2024 before transferring to London’s West End, where it opened at the Dominion Theatre in December 2024.
