(Photos: Instagram/@alongimna)Onam came with all the usual grandeur for Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along, but his plate came with a very different kind of restraint. Sharing pictures of an elaborate Onam Sadya, the minister joked that he only ate the banana and left everything else for the camera.Imna Along, Nagaland’s Tourism and Higher Education Minister, shared a few pictures from his Onam celebrations on Instagram. The photographs show him seated before a traditional Sadya spread, served on a banana leaf and featuring an array of colourful dishes.True to his social media style, Along accompanied the pictures with a tongue-in-cheek caption in Hindi.“Onam ka prasad samajh ke maine sirf kela khaya. Baaki toh bas photo ke liye haath lagaya tha (Thinking of it as Onam prasad, I only ate the banana. The rest, I only touched for the photographs),” he joked. He then added a disclaimer that was perhaps more dramatic than the meal itself: “P.S.- Stunt performed under professional supervision. Don’t try this at home.”See the fun post here: The post quickly went viral, with several users wishing Imna Along a happy Onam and enjoying yet another dose of his trademark humour.Along has built a huge social media following with posts that often turn ordinary moments from his public life into light-hearted observations. He currently has more than 547,000 followers on Instagram. The post also offered a glimpse of one of Onam’s most recognisable traditions: the Sadya. Celebrated primarily in Kerala, Onam marks the annual homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali and is one of the state’s biggest festivals. At the heart of the celebrations is the Sadya, a lavish feast traditionally served on a banana leaf. It can feature a long list of dishes, including rice, sambar, avial, thoran, olan, pachadi, pickles, papad and a variety of payasams. The order and combination may vary, but the idea remains the same, a festive meal meant to be enjoyed together.- EndsPublished By: Srimoyee ChowdhuryPublished On: Aug 27, 2026 10:08 IST
