Telangana Assembly proceedings disrupted on second day

File | Photo Credit: RAMAKRISHNA G The issues pertaining to “unparliamentary” language alleged used by a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator against Telangana Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar and the police “misbehaviour” against BRS women legislators on Monday, rocked the Legislative Assembly for the second consecutive day on Tuesday (September 8, 2026).As the House assembled for the day, BRS Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao raised placards demanding action against the police officials allegedly indulged in the incident. The Speaker tried to convince the members that the issue was being looked into and appropriate action would be initiated against the personnel responsible once the report was submitted. The BRS members however insisted on their demand even as Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu intervened explaining the agitated members about the steps initiated to get a full report on the incident.“We are seized of the matter. But the BRS members did not even express their regrets over the abusive remarks made by their member against the Speaker despite knowing that casting aspersions against the Chair is violative of the rules of the House,” he said advising the BRS members that it was the Speaker’s office that was protecting the interests of the members cutting across party lines.Another Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar said he hoped that the BRS members would apologise to the Speaker for the “shameful” comments made by their party member casting aspersions on the Mr. Prasad Kumar.Mr. Harish Rao, however, asserted that there was evidence in the form of video records over the “indecent” behaviour of the police personnel against the BRS women legislators. “Instead of initiating action against those guilty, the government has in fact registered cases against MLAs P. Sabita Indra Reddy, Sunita Lakshma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi,” he lamented likening the Assembly to the “Kaurava Sabha” and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to Dussasana of Mahabharata.The Speaker who grew impatient with the sloganeering lashed out at the BRS members claiming: “I should be angry. Me and my mother have been abused, not you,” he told the BRS members.Minister Seethakka suspected a planned attempt in the entire episode questioning, “Why were the women legislators pushed to the front? What about the attack on the police personnel by the BRS members?”Mr. Harish Rao however explained that the BRS member (MLC Tata Madhu) clarified in a written statement that his comments were not intended at the Speaker and that he was taking them back unconditionally if anyone was hurt by them. “In fact, we thought the Legislative Affairs Minister will tender apologies for what happened on Monday,” he said.The BRS Deputy Floor Leader rushed into the Well of the House even as Mr. Sridhar Babu was explaining about the government’s efforts to get a full report on the incident. Mr. Harish Rao was stopped by the marshals from moving further and he was joined by few other BRS legislators. The Speaker adjourned the proceedings as din prevailed in the House.
