With the sunny months finally upon us, what better way to celebrate than by diving into one of the best summer games of all time: Super Mario Sunshine? Well, thanks to Nintendo, that is now possible for a select number of Nintendo Switch 2 users. Set to arrive this August, Super Mario Sunshine will be available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members courtesy of the Nintendo GameCube Classics app on Switch 2. If you were not already aware, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription allows users to access online features on both the Switch and Switch 2. Not only that, but they will be able to unlock exclusive rewards such as profile icons, the Nintendo Music app, and even play retro games that we all remember fondly via NES, SNES, and Game Boy. On top of that, they will be able to save their game data to the cloud, and all of this is available for $19.99 a year. However, as with many subscription services, Nintendo Switch Online also has multiple tiers to choose from, including one that costs $49.99 per year. This one allows subscribers to access NSO Expansion Pack, featuring games for the GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Virtual Boy, and Sega Genesis, as well as any DLC content and Switch 2 upgrades for some of Nintendo's biggest games. With access to hundreds of classic titles, the Nintendo Classic is upgraded monthly to welcome some of our favorite childhood titles. So, what does this mean for Super Mario Sunshine? Well, thanks to the Nintendo GameCube Classics app which was released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 back in July 2025, players can access tons of classic games, with new titles being added regularly. One such game is none other than Super Mario Sunshine, which will now be heading to the service this August. Arriving on 13 August, this will be your first opportunity to try out the beloved 2002 platformer on a modern-day console. Of course, it has been available before as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, but this was for a limited time. Now you will be able to play it to your heart's content in a perfect emulation of the original GameCube title. With it being an emulation, do not expect a remaster for Super Mario Sunshine. Although it will now be optimized for modern-gen screens, its graphics have not been visually enhanced. This may be a deal-breaker for many, but if you want to relive your childhood, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. To conclude, Super Mario Sunshine will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Classics app on 13 August 2026, and this is one that you do not want to miss out on.
