Final Fantasy 15 was in development for a notoriously long time, and both Dragon Quest 12 and Kingdom Hearts 4 were first announced five and four years ago respectively, and we've had barely a sniff at a release date or even a meaningful development update. Of course, games take a long time to make these days, but for Square Enix, they seem to be taking a much longer time than most other developers. However, it has improved in recent years, and it now seems to be actively trying to speed things up, according to the company's most recent financial report. Square Enix Wants To Release Its Biggest Games Faster First reported by GameSpot, the financial report includes a slide which explains that Square Enix has been working on "establishing a framework" to release games from its biggest franchises at a steady pace. It then point to the games that have released over the past couple of fiscal years, such as the many Dragon Quest remakes, Final Fantasy Tactics, and several ports. It also lists games from the upcoming fiscal year too, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the new, recently announced expansion for Final Fantasy 14 - Evercold. Of course, we know that Square Enix has more up its sleeve for the next year, such as the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake series, but this is all the info we have so far. While it's not all that surprising, it is at least nice to know that there has been a noticeable shift in terms of release schedules at Square Enix, and it seems to be working quite well for the company. We'll have to see if this will translate to mainline titles rather than just remakes, and hopefully, there won't be much of a wait for new mainline entries once this "framework" is built upon.
