Faceplate plans aren't public yet, but people are asking for it to be released. plans may be released for DIY. Valve has been pretty open about what people do with the faceplate of their Steam Machines. In fact, it made the designs for an e-ink front display open-source so you can make your own at home. Now, someone has made their own faceplate that can hold a Steam Controller in place while also charging it using the official puck. This faceplate turns the Steam Machine into a Steam Controller dock Two for the price of one Over on the Steam Machine subreddit, user NefariousnessWhole25 had a problem. They liked the idea of the Steam Machine having an e-ink faceplate, but their own device is so far away from them that they wouldn't be able to read anything on it. As such, they got to work making something that would serve them better. They ended up with a faceplate molded to the shape of the Steam Controller. Once you're done playing for the day, you can place the controller into the nook. The Steam Controller puck buried in the middle of the mold keeps the controller in place using the built-in magnets, ensuring it stays in place. So how is the puck getting power to charge the controller? Well, NefariousnessWhole25 thought of that. In a comment on the thread, they explained how the puck works in this build: The puck is only held in place by friction; there is a tiny little lip that prevents the bottom from sliding out and the top is secured by plugging in the USB-C end of the cable. I have used a 90degree adapter cable to prevent the cable from going out of the top of the faceplate. They haven't made the plans for this faceplate available for everyone to use, but with so many people in the thread asking for the plans, here's hoping they release them for us to make at home.
