Based in Louth, Ireland, Paul has spent years writing about games, pop culture, and tech, turning his lifelong love of gaming into a career that lets him talk (probably too much) about what makes this industry so endlessly fascinating. He’s previously written and collaborated with several entertainment outlets, including LADbible, gaining a wide perspective on how gaming fits into today’s pop culture conversation. His work blends genuine enthusiasm with thoughtful analysis, exploring how design, storytelling, and community have made gaming one of the most creative mediums around. When he’s not glued to a controller or keyboard, Paul’s usually spinning vinyl, plotting his next horror marathon, or debating which Resident Evil entry really reigns supreme. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was the grandfather of adventure RPGs. Teaching us the valuable lesson that if you can see it, you can go there. The Legend of Zelda franchise has given us some of the greatest adventure games ever made, with our hero Link becoming as iconic as Todd Howard's promises over the years. To combine the two worlds seems like every RPG fan's greatest wish. Well, one creator has done just that. Let's get into it! Almost 13 years in the making, Relics of Hyrule - A DLC Scale Zelda Mod is breathing new life into Skyrim and giving fans of both The Elder Scrolls games and Zelda games exactly what they craze. A mesh of two amazing franchises that has to be seen to be believed. As it promises, Relics of Hyrule is much larger than your average mod. This feels more like a DLC with new assets, locations built from the ground up, brand-new dungeons to explore and new character models and weapons that would look right at home in a Nintendo franchise. YouTube In the creator's own words, Relics of Hyrule is a large mod that adds scores of new weapons, spells, enchantments, enemies, NPCs, dungeons, and experiences that are (hopefully) balanced with the base Skyrim game and integrated into its locations, while connecting Zelda lore to Elder Scrolls lore as a bit of fun that gained a little too much momentum. The mod has been actively expanding and evolving since August 2013 and will continue to grow in the future, with new content and fixes every few months. With two worlds colliding, the mod aims to inject locales and lore that Zelda fans are familiar with, without completely changing the already brilliant world of Skyrim. For example, you don't get to play as Link. It is more like you're stumbling across areas and story that would not look out of place in games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In fact, the puzzle elements in this mod look like they've been ripped straight from the shrines in BotW or Tears of the Kingdom. YouTube Relics of Hyrule aims to pay homage to The Legend of Zelda franchise without trying to rip off Nintendo. It has received over 3,500 endorsements on NexusMods, making it the highest endorsed Zelda mod on the platform. While we wait for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake to release, this may just compliment the magical world of Zelda in the interim. There have been many Zelda fan projects before, some of which offer over five hours of gameplay, but having a homage based in the world of Skyrim feels very special indeed. Relics of Hyrule is free to download and play for anyone who owns either the base version or special edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PC. It is currently not available for console players. We've seen other Nintendo properties on PC before, and we're even getting Mario Kart on PC this August, but nobody has merged two popular franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Skyrim together with greater success than Relic of Hyrule.
