You may have noticed that Josh Homme, deep into the rollout for the new Queens Of The Stone Age album Perfecth, is looking really, really good these days. Homme was always handsome, but he's clearly got one of these faces that gets more interesting as he ages. He's 53 now. He's about 6'4". His eyes are a piercing blue. He dresses in interesting ways. He's got dangly earring and tattoos on his fingers. He projects a certain calm authority. There's just a lot to like there. People have noticed. Last weekend, Josh Homme made his runway debut, walking in a Paris Fashion Week show from the Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester. Ethel Cain also walked in the "Lonesome Heaven" show. Chelsea Wolfe opened it by performing the unreleased song "Wandering," which she has been performing on tour, and her song "Whispers In The Echo Chamber" soundtracked the catwalk. But the part of the show that really went viral was the sight of Homme in a pinstripe suit, neckerchief, and flip-flops, really pulling off that Derek Zoolander expression. The writer Alex Nino Gheciu interviewed Homme for GQ about the viral reaction to his runway moment, and Homme said, "I’m waiting for the backlash of being in people’s feed too much... Being there was like watching this beehive work of all these talented people. No one was a jerk. Everyone was so nice. There was nothing not to like." There was, however, at least one thing that he didn't like:I wish they wouldn’t have painted my eyes brown, though. There was this makeup woman, and she’s like, “We are making everyone tired.” I was like, “Do that to the 20-year-olds. I’m 53. Don’t make my eyes look tired. Hey, could you don’t do that?” That was my one gripe. On the subject of being described as a "silver fox," Homme says, "It’s better than being a dumb fox. Lord knows I’ve hung out with a bunch of dumb fucks before." (He also references the old Kyuss song "I Was A Teenage Hand Model." And he notes that he's planning to start his own clothing line, which he's calling Homme Construction:I’m about to start a boutique clothing company called Homme Construction, which is coming out at the end of the year or early next. It’s largely inspired by my grandparents and things I know, things that I would do. It’s just for fun, really...It’s not big. It’s some custom jackets. They’re based off of stuff that I’ve been making with a friend. The first thing will be a jacket that I wore all last tour. There’s a carpet bag that’s sort of a take on the Depression-era carpet bag my grandparents used to carry booze in. [Laughs.] It’s kind of a remake, a play on that.[I’m working with] this Emmy-winning costume designer, Dayna Pink, and this maverick sort of guy, Terry Anderson. It’s only four or five things. I have a fucking T-shirt that just says “Scumbag.” It’s very simple shit, too.I wonder whether Homme knows that there's already a company called Homme Construction, though it seems unlikely that anyone will get his clothing label confused with the other one.
