The Sicario franchise is one of the most acclaimed neo-Western crime thriller properties and has launched the careers of its creator, Taylor Sheridan, and has built a massive cult following. The series centers around the morally gray, brutal world of covert intelligence operations and the war against Mexican drug cartels. It began in 2015, with a sequel titled Sicario: Day of the Soldado released in 2018, and now a third installment is said to be in development. It was previously announced that a third installment of Taylor Sheridan's Sicario franchise is set to be created, with sources stating that Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin will reprise their roles. Sicario 3 now has a major production update from Brolin in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The actor shared an important update on the filming window for the upcoming installment: "We were always looking at scripts. We always wanted to do it. We didn’t intend to wait this long, but you have Benny [del Toro], Emily [Blunt], and me looking at things and reacting to filmmakers or scripts differently. But then Steven Knight wrote a script that was incredible, and it was kind of undeniable. All of us reacted similarly. So we’re very excited about doing it. We’ll do it next year. We have a great filmmaker, Padraic McKinley, who we think is going to make a very good movie, and we’re excited." In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Brolin previously confirmed that production for Sicario 3 would be happening "soon," but wasn't specific on when. Now, it appears that Sicario 3 will officially begin production next year, with Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders, writing the script and The Weight's Padraic McKinley directing. However, one missing piece is that of the franchise's creator, Sheridan, who is not writing the script and has not been announced to be involved in the process, which Brolin describes as "juggly." During New York Comic Con, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Brolin further elaborated on reuniting with his costars and stated: "Then you find it, and then we all get super happy, and we all can't wait to get on set. We all can't wait to get on set anyway. It's been a while. We adore each other, and we've all worked together before. Benicio and I, this will be our sixth film together. It's fantastic [to work with Emily again]. I just sent her a little voice memo yesterday, and I just adore her, I adore her. I think the work right now has reached a level that's just untouchable." More to come...
