Box Office: Street Fighter Wins #1 Amid Flood Of Top 5 Competitors

Fists are flying at the domestic box office, but Street Fighter is coming out on top. 2026's Street Fighter is a new live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name. Directed and co-written by Kitao Sakurai, the movie boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Eric André, 50 Cent, Don Lee, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, David Dastmalchian, and Jason Momoa. Per The Numbers, as of Sunday morning, Street Fighter is projected to earn a 3-day total of $31 million at the domestic box office. In addition to this debut earning more than both of the previous live-action installments in the franchise put together (both unadjusted and adjusted for inflation), it is more than enough for the movie to take No. 1 at the box office in spite of an almost unprecedented flood of new releases at the box office. The next highest-grossing new release is the Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which is projected to earn $15 million (the second-best debut in history for a non-concert documentary, behind 2004's Fahrenheit 9/11) and debut at No. 2. Below, see the full domestic Top 5 chart for the weekend. # Title 3-Day Total Cumulative (Domestic) 1 Street Fighter $31 million $31 million (weekend 1) 2 You Can See Everything $15 million $15 million (weekend 1) 3 Other Mommy $8.3 million $44.8 million (weekend 2) 4 Whalefall $8 million $8 million (weekend 1) 5 Sense and Sensibility $7.25 million $7.25 million (weekend 1) The only holdover title on the chart is the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster horror movie Other Mommy, which plummeted from No. 1 to No. 3 with a staggering sophomore drop of 70%. While horror movies are often frontloaded and can frequently drop 60% or more, this especially aggressive drop may be a result of its hostile reviews from critics and audiences alike, earning it 17% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and 48% on the Popcornmeter. The fact that Other Mommy is still No. 3 in spite of its huge drop speaks to the middling performance of the other two new releases in the Top 5. For the survival thriller Whalefall, that No. 4 debut could be particularly damaging, as it comes with a $60 million price tag that could place its estimated break-even point as high as $150 million. The Jane Austen adaptation Sense and Sensibility is in better shape, as its $25 million budget puts its estimated break-even point more in reach at $62.5 million. Plus, it is expected to earn the single best opening weekend in history for a period-set Austen movie (not adjusted for inflation). Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. Meanwhile, this is only the second weekend of 2026 in which four new releases have debuted in the Top 5. This sees plenty of holdover titles being ousted, with the Colleen Hoover thriller Verity falling from No. 2 to No. 6 during its third weekend, Zach Cregger's Resident Evil going from No. 3 to No. 7 during its fifth, the Brad Pitt survival movie Heart of the Beast moving from No. 4 to No. 8 in its fourth, and the Social Network sequel The Social Reckoning plummeting from No. 5 out of the Top 10 entirely during its sophomore frame. Street Fighter will probably be similarly unable to defend its title against the slew of new releases coming during its sophomore weekend, including the DC Studios horror movie Clayface, Taika Waititi's Kazuo Ishiguro adaptation Klara and the Sun, and Laika's stop-motion fantasy epic Wildwood.
