Shark may have cracked the perfect corded vacuum – I put it through its paces

With a plethora of vacuum cleaners on the market, from cordless vacuums, robotic designs, and even wet and dry vacuums, finding the best vacuum cleaner can feel overwhelming. I have tested the new Shark vacuum for numerous weeks, and it is one of the best corded vacuums I have ever tested, maybe even the best.I’m no stranger to a vacuum cleaner, and have used plenty in my time, but I always return to Shark’s vacuums because they are reliable, durable, long-lasting, and provide a thorough clean. How I tested Maisie Bovingdon/The StandardAfter five years, my beloved cordless Shark Duo Clean went “kaput”, so I replaced it with the brand’s latest release, which has fast become my favourite home gadget, and one I strongly recommend investing in. Considering everything from design and efficiency to value for money and ease-of-use, here’s why Shark Power Detect Transformer PowerTrio System Upright Vacuum with Detect and Reveal is deserving of a spot in your home. Shark ★★★★★What we love: Easy to use, fast and thorough clean, anti-allergen, autodetects floor type, can manually select your desired programme, numerous attachments to clean different surfaces, tight spaces, and materials, easy to clean, and features odour neutralising technology. Take care: Heavy, and the nozzle detachment needs pressure to click back into the main device after use.Shark’s latest innovation is described as the brand’s “first 3-in-1 hoseless upright vacuum”. The main pod detaches to allow the stick to clean under tight areas, such as under my sofa, bed, and table, while the handheld vacuum reaches tricky areas such as cobwebs in the cornices. The stick boasts four attachments, which are easy to use, interchangeable, and safe for any fabric or surface type. After a summer of DIY, I wanted to give my home a serious deep clean – and the attachments truly shone. I used the Duster Crevice Tool on the hand vac wand to get into every nook and cranny. Meanwhile, the Stair Tool is safe to use on upholstery, and the HairPro Pet Power Brush is perfect for seat and scatter cushions. Shark has integrated four intelligent technologies into this vacuum: Direction Detect, Edge Detect, Floor Detect, and Dirt Detect. Shark’s Reveal Technology does exactly what it says on the tin – reveals all! The LED shines a light on the floor, which impressed and horrified me, as it revealed every minute particle of dust invisible to the naked eye. This vacuum has different settings to suit all floor types, such as hard floors, carpet/low pile, and thick carpet or rugs. Plus, there is a Detect Mode, which automatically detects the different floor type, edges, corners, and adjusts the suction to maximise performance. This fuss-free setting is my go-to programme because it makes cleaning a breeze.Maisie Bovingdon/The StandardThe Edge Detect function automatically detects any edges and increases the suction to pull in any dust or dirt, which saved me scraping my newly repainted skirting boards. The anti-hair wrap technology is a hero feature. The two-brush roll system works to vacuum all the dirt, dust and hair before the second roller collects the strands of hair to prevent it from clogging the vacuum. Combine this with the HEPA filtration and anti-allergen complete seal, which claims to collect 99.9 per cent of dust and allergens, and my home was left ultra-clean. As a mild asthmatic, I noticed the air in my London flat felt clearer. Moreover, the vacuum boasts anti-odour technology which helps to remove any lingering cooking smells. The hand vac section features a smaller-sized dust cup, which automatically empties into the main dust pod. Emptying the dust bin is super simple, quick, and mess-free. What I loved about my former cordless Shark vacuum was that I could clean every room without any cords restricting me, though the battery life didn’t last long enough to clean all five rooms. Thankfully, the Transformer’s eight-metre cord is long enough for me to use in my open-plan kitchen, lounge, bathroom, as well as most of the bedrooms in the front of the building. I only switched sockets once to reach the very far corners of my home. However, the corded design is far weightier than its cordless siblings, Another bugbear was that I needed to apply a bit of force to slot the wand back into the main pod; otherwise it kept falling out. Lastly, this vacuum makes a lot of unnecessary noise, which is irritating when combined with the especially loud suction. However, I can’t fault the actual design or functionality of this robust and powerful vacuum, which leaves my home spotless. Power: MainsCorded or cordless: CordedRun time: Timeless – mains poweredCleaning modes: Detect, hard floor, low pile carpet and thick carpetDisplay type: TouchscreenFloor surface: All, hard floor and carpetWeight: 8.02 kgSize: 28.5 cm L x 30.61 cm W x 117.2 cm HAttachments: Four – Duster crevice tool, Stair tool, HairPro Pet Power Brush, Anti-allergen dusting brush.Ultimately, the Shark Transformer is a powerful, easy-to-use, and efficient vacuum that makes cleaning every surface, floor type and furnishing effortless. Safe to say, this new release has exceeded my high expectations of Shark’s home tools, and its multifunctionality justifies the price tag. So, if you want your home to look, smell, and feel cleaner, the vacuum is a worthy investment. Shark has truly thought of everything with this multi-functional design.
