Seyi Tinubu: A Birthday and that Colloquium

You people will think that I am having a very unhealthy fixation on this paddy, writing about him week after week. My people, even I am tired, but the guy just keeps doing and doing. Last Monday, it was colloquium o. Before, when they talk about colloquium, one used to think of those ancient politicians that have really done something in our country – them Awolowo, Azikiwe and even his father. So when I heard colloquium beside his name, I just fell from my bed. Kai! Truly there was colloquium o and almost everybody in their sycophantic best were in the room o. From the Olu of Warri to my “na we dey here” Sanwo-Olu, all filled up the giant Eko Hotels venue. It was one of those things that you see in North Korea – a huge picture of the leader staring from a giant screen, staring down at his people, and the leader holding the microphone with a protruding pot belly and thanking his people for “honouring him in this way” and then one “tambolo” would rush to the stage and prostrate, and the leader would say – ohhhh, he did this by himself, and I thank him, like he was not sent. Kai, Nigeria ehn, we are one big owambe party. Come and see sitting governors bowing and scrapping for an unelected son of the president. Come and see first-class traditional rulers, first-class politicians and the rest. Then one journalist called me – Edgar, apart from being the son of the president, what has he achieved? The other day, I saw him at one ex-governor’s house; I just hissed and removed my face. Another friend called, “Wow, Seyi is the new face of leadership, kai, he is doing so well, like father, like son.” And to cap it, his father, while still trying to explain to us that he will not be coming to Shomolu for campaigns, managed to squeeze out, “Well done, Seyi, for contributing to national development.” Mbok, my pain is that I was not invited both to the colloquium and the after party that would have followed and that is why I am angry. So, you people should leave me o and be doing your “yama yama” colloquium without inviting me; I want to die here from jealousy. Lol!
