AT LEAST three children are feared to be among six people killed in a horror school shooting in Thailand. The suspected lone gunman, believed to be a 14-year-old student, opened fire inside the secondary school with 30 people injured including three in a critical condition. The fifth victim is believed to be the shooter who was also found dead inside the school, say officials. Dechrapee Kongdee, chief of the Nonthaburi provincial police, told the BBC the pupil was in the ninth grade which would likely make them 14 years old. Dozens fled onto the streets as cops rushed to the school. Armed units managed to find the downed suspect and secured the school. Students and staff trapped inside were being evacuated from the campus as the recovery operation continues. Police Colonel Phatsakorn Chaitaweewong, superintendent of Plai Bang Police Station, said: “The public and parents should avoid the area and follow official updates.” Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul paid tribute to the victims. He said: “This is really bad, it shouldn’t have happened. I don’t just feel sorry for the victims but I feel sorry that this happened. “How can this happen in our country. This is why the government do not allow [citizens] to posses firearms.” Firearms are available in Thailand in shops and can be easily purchased on the black market. The country has a tragic past with multiple school shootings. Back in February, a gunman opened fire with a machine gun and took hostages inside a school in Songkhla province, southern Thailand. One teacher was killed. In 2022, gunman Panya Khamrab killed 37 people, including 24 children, during a rampage at a nursery school in Bua Lamphu province. Comment now
